Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

This may be long, but PLEASE read it and help me out if you can:

I finally got the nerve to go to Verizon today to pick up a T720, but to no avail. After running my credit check, the guy tells me they need a $400 deposit from me! Bewildered, I had the guy call in and find out exactly why. The lady on the other end of the phone tells him that the computer says I have NO CREDIT! NONE! At all! I lay 2 credit cards on the table, both with a balance of $0, that I've had for several years. Then I point to my 2002 Jetta in the parking lot that I just bought a month ago! He tells the lady "he's got credit cards, and he just bought a car for god's sake, he's gotta have credit!". She says there's nothing she can do right now, and they're asking me to come back in the morning to straighten this out...

Has anyone else ran into a similar problem with Verizon not pulling up accurate credit info? Or am I in some sort of "Changing Lanes" scenario, and I have someone's files that they really want back?

Did they get your social security number right? I was denied a best buy credit card once, and when I finally received the letter with the explaination, it was because the girl mistyped my soc, so they said I had insufficient credit history.

Even though a cell phone is essentially a line of credit, I'm not 100% sure if you'll get a denial explaination in the mail.

Sorry, I don't remember exactly what that letter is called, but it states the reason for denail, and then by law, if you are rejected for credit, you are entitled to a free credit report.

I would say try a different store, but I'm guessing they all call into the same credit verification service.

Good luck. Hope it they get i straight this time.

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

Well I went back to Verizon tonight and tried again, but got the same response from the people. One guy there said he had something similar happen to him, and it was due to his purchase of a new car. He said 3 months later, everything was fine. I guess they want to see that I'm capable of making my car payments on time or something. SO, I called Sprint, told them NOT to disconnect my phone yet! I'm gonna pay them month-to-month until I get this all sorted out. Which actually is a good thing, cause I really wanted to wait for the Samsung Jupiter (this mystery phone that I can find NO info on!) or something better than the T720. So thanks for all the info guys! I'm gonna go pull my credit report off the web now and make sure no one's stolen my identity or somethin!

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you will get a letter in the mail if you are denied service or are asked for a deposit ("adverse action".)

It's possible that VZW pulled credit from a credit reporting agency that has incomplete (in this case, "no") info on you. I find my Equifax report is most complete of the Big Three CRAs, Trans Union has most of my accounts, and Experian doesn't know about over half my accounts. (Which of the three CRAs has the most info on you usually depends on where in the country you live -- according to bankers I know, in the South, Equifax is big [I work two blocks from Equifax's HQ in Atlanta!]; in the East, TU is; and in the West, Experian is.)

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

Ohio uses Equifax, Experian, and Transunion. I personally pulled my credit report off all 3 of these sites tonight, and every single one is accurate and up to date. They even show the inquiries from Verizon from 2 days ago! Every single report is complete and in good standing (even better than I had thought it would be!). So I know SOMEthing's messed up over at VZW. I may take my reports in just to show them and prove myself, but at this point I'm just going to hold off for a month or so anyways, and see what new phones Verizon has up their sleeves for the holiday season...I've had Sprint for this long; I can suffer for another month or two...

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

I had exactly the same Kind of problem yesterday with the verizon service. When my credit information was pulled up they said "INSUFFICIENT CREDIT" whereeas I am having platinum cards and the like. I was asked to pay 400 $ as a deposit by Verizon whihc I refused. I pulled up my credit reports from Equifax and it was accurate with a good rating. Hence I wonder wot is wrong with te Verizon System.
Kindly let me know aor email me as to what we can do in this kind of a situation. I want Verizon simply because of its coverage and service.

I work for Cingular, and as I understand, ours change depending on how many activations we need or how good a month the company is having.

Sprint PCS has EXTREMELY lenient credit policies, whereas Verizon Wireless is MUCH more stringent.

sprint does have the lowest of credit requirements. Which is not necessarily a good thing. Because sprint gets all the financially undependable customers. Hence why sprint has the highest "churn" rates. Which is a result of people not being able to pay their bills and end up cancelling. And when wireless companies are ranked, sprint loses points for high churn rate.

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

It could be that they pulled the credit report from one of the bureaux that didn't have much on you. (Experian still think I live in Minnesota. Haven't for years and years.)

It could be that they put in the wrong SSN. They may not have put in the right information either, which would result in a "sorry, couldn't find anything" error.

Find out who they use and pull your own credit just to make sure. Yes, technically you can wait for the letter and get a free report but I just pay the $8.50. I do it once a year anyway just to keep tabs on it, all three (well worth the $25 investment to get the peace of mind - my identity has been stolen twice).

You can send them a letter contesting the denial. Also, in CA, they are required to pay you 3% interest on your deposit at the year's anniversary.

I suspect operator error on VZW's part. and concur, you should try a different store.

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

Thanks for the info. I pulled my report from all 3 bureaus and everything looks fine. I'd try a different store, but that's just gonna put even more inquiries on my credit report, which is a bad thing to have. I don't wanna have 3 hits on my credit report from Verizon within a month! I'm just gonna wait it out for a month or so...

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

Most likely if your score came back a zero...I've seen this happen, it is a glitch in the credit system. Sometime's credit software will have glitches, at my last company I could run credit on an indivual and they would come up with a zero, I had an alternative dial-in software program that I could go to and get an accurate report on them...we always knew we had a glitch when it came back a zero.

You may want to ask your Verizon rep to call the credit department and do what's called a "manual review" this way a credit specialist can look at your credit report in more detail...other than just a "score".

yep, I had him call and do a manual review...came back the same! Is there any way to have them try again without it counting as a hit on my credit report?

I would just forgot about signing up with Verizon Wireless if I was you. It's too much of a hassle either stick with Sprint PCS or go with somebody else.

sometimes what i have seen is that when someone buys a new house or vehicle w/in the last few months they sometimes require a deposit. this does not necessarily reflect your credit history accurately..i know when i bought a new truck this past summer and about 2 months later went to apply for store credit to buy furniture i was denied b/c of this

if you have never used those cards or have only used them a half dozen or so times and purchased inexpensive items and paid them off right away, you may have minimal credit

The reason credit checks are in place is because the company is extending it's credit on your behalf when you roam...Every time you make a call on another carriers network you are obligating your home carrier to pay for that call...regardless of whether you pay your bills or not.

Default Credit report problems through Verizon?

Well, here's what I did. I went to Verizon, took my boss with me, got a T720, and he just added me to the company's account. No credit check or anything. I wasn't gonna take the chance of Verizon hitting my credit report a 3rd time, just so they could try and convince me that I have no credit! So I got a phone, I love it, Verizon is MUCH clearer and more stable than Sprint; Thanks for all the info guys! Have a Merry Christmas!
