Verizon to Buy Northcoast? This article from TheStreet.com is about Cablevision being let out of
its obligation to pay for Nextwave licenses which would let them sell
their Northcoast Wireless holdings. The last paragraph mentions
Northcoast would most likely be bought by Verizon
.

AFAIK, Northcoast only operates currently in N. OH, but has licenses for
much of that state, in addition to the Boston & NYC, and other
licenses.

Verizon to Buy Northcoast? Yes, Northcoast has licenses for every county in Ohio, and their network in Ohio is alot larger than what they have posted on their website, they have alot of the towers disabled in the Warren, Youngstown and south on 71 towards Columbus, but they are still there and transmitting, if you know how to find them.
The network is partially up and running in New York, But all of a sudden they pulled the job openings for the New York area, I am sure something is going on, I wonder if Verizon
is going to buy just the New York and Boston licenses or all of them? All I know is that I use my Northcoast phone alot and dont want to have to give up the unlimited minutes.
I guess with the FCC removing the spectrum cap, all heck is going to break loose, only time will tell.

Verizon to Buy Northcoast? You might have to.
I was talking to a Northcoast rep and was telling me how there parent company is bankrupt and they have quit their plans to expand into other markets (columbus etc.). They have shut down the towers.
BTW Coalminer how is T-Mobile
working for you. I also see in your profile that you got rid of Verizon
and went with cingular?
What would Verizon
do with Northcoast?
I thought that another unlimited provider might buy them out

Verizon to Buy Northcoast? I am not impressed with T-Mobile
, I personally think I have a defective phone, but it has been looked at and they say it is fine.
Voice quality is really bad unless I have full signal.
I dont know what Verizon
would do with Northcoast, but I had read somewhere that for the Cleveland market, Northcoast has been turning a profit. I hope that they decide to sell it and they service stays the way it is now. I wonder who would be in a position to buy it? I know it's not going to be Leap, have you seen how much trouble they are in these days?
Yes, I switched my travel phone from Verizon
to Cingular, I am on one of the old national plans that include the night and weekend minutes. I rarely use that around here, just when I am on the road.

Verizon to Buy Northcoast? Just for the record... this mildly pertains to your T-Mobile
experience, as I am a Cingular GSM customer... I have an Ericsson T61z and I've noticed that voice quality is still quite acceptable even in low signal areas... I've gotten perfectly good call quality at 1-2 bars, although I've noticed a strange stutter effect when signal dips to 1 bar quickly during a handoff... then again, that's a fault of GSM not being able to do soft handoffs like CDMA... Aside from that, GSM voice quality has been very good in my experience, even when roaming on VS's network in various other areas (KY, Cincy Ohio, Atlanta GA, Nashville and Chattanooga TN)... It may very well be your phone.

Verizon to Buy Northcoast? Thats what I am thinking too, but they keep saying that the phone is ok, I dont know anyone else with VS here in Cleveland that I could throw their sim card in and let them use it for a day to see if it is the phone.
You know, after reading that article again, looks like they are only talking about selling the New York and Boston spectrum. Dam I sure hope that the Cleveland market dont get sold.
On another note, was looking on Northcoasts website, they are offering the Motorola v60 for $279.00, about time they decided to carry a newer phone model!!!!!!!!
