I am currently a voice stream customer and hate their service. I currently can not get a reliable signal in my house. I live on the east side of columbus and want to know who (if anyone) has the best service. I am not sure if my current poor reception is due to my phone, in addition to my service provider. If someone could recommend a plan that they know has good coverage in columbus, especially the far east side, and a good phone to go with it (long battery life and good signal strength). Thanks, B |

I'd recommend the Sanyo 4900 if you decide to go with Sprint. Great signal and excellent battery life.

I've had overall positive experiences with Sprint in Columbus. The phone that I had at the time, a Samsung A400, provided decent signal strength and battery life. However, now that I have a Sanyo 4900, I've noticed that my clarity and signal strength in the Cleveland area is 400% better. I will be heading back down to Columbus in a few weeks, and expect similar improvements there. With Sprint, it seems to be all in the phone, so choose wisely! I am a former AT&T customer in the Columbus area also. I had a Nokia 5165 on their service, and was overall pleased. They were doing quite a few network upgrades, and sometimes would need to turn off digital service for a brief time - no more than an hour, and usually in the later evening hours. A close friend with a V60t on ATT service in Columbus is absolutely thrilled with it after about two months of use.

TPX01EX, Have you noticed that on the 4900, you kind of have to push hard for the "end" key to register when turning the power on and off? This is the only flaw I've found so far with this great phone. |

When you had the samsung with sprint was signal poor in your house. That's my main consern, the signal in my house. So let me know if the sanyo 4900 increases signal strength in your house. As far as AT&T, where in columbus did you live when you had the service, I live east of 270.

Sprint is decent in columbus. I would have your voicestream phone checked out. Jack

I agree with Jack, you should have your Voicestream phone checked. I have been to Columbus several times, not for sure what part though, but coverage was just fine. I go to Columbus alot to go shopping. You have alot of malls down there in that area. I'll be going back to Polaris in September, any new stores? By the way, I have Voicestream service and I live about 2 1/2 hours away from you in Toledo. Call Voicestream and tell them your problems; It's probably your phone. |

I called them a couple of times about my service. They replaced my husband once...same phone, and I noticed no improvement in the service. So I called customer care and they had me do a couple of things...and decided that the best thing to do was turn the phone on and off to reconnect with the tower. This helps a bit for like two minutes. Then I spoke with a guy who works in a voice stream store who said voice streams service is non existance in parts of pickerington and that we are sort of on the boarder line of there service. Plus I go to florida alot and they don't have service in the area that I visit...so I have to buy a phone card to call home...which I feel is rediculous. Right now I am thinking along the lines of getting Verizon or Sprint service. Let me know which of those is better here and what phones are good with Verizon...if I get sprint I think I will go with the sanyo. Thanks though |

BML Sprint and verizon are both good in Columbus. (Before deciding check who would have the best florida coverage) Jack

I live in Central, Ohio and Verizon Wireless has worked very well for me. I use my phone all over the city and love the service. I have had several phones with them as well. I currently have a KYO6065 and it works well for me. |

I haven't noticed a problem turning off my 4900... although I do seem to have to hold the button for a while to turn it on. Not necessarily harder, but it seems like I have to hold it down for maybe 5 seconds, versus the 2 or 3 of all my previous phones. Of course, I rarely turn it off, so I guess that's not that big of a deal YES, the 4900 made the coverage in my house phenomenal. I can place calls from my BASEMENT, whereas before the second I would set foot in my house, my A400 and A460 would start garbling and usually drop the call. If I was more than 5 feet away from an east-facing window, it would start looking for service. I've yet to see my 4900 without access to service. I live in the OSU area, as I attend school there. I'm now approximately 5 streets north of OSU main campus. I travel regularly around the area, as far north as Polaris, as far south as the Grove City area. Basically anywhere within 270 Coverage has been pretty solid, although if you stray to the E or W of 71 in central Delaware county, things can get shaky. |

Thanks, I am also a student at OSU, so I am glad coverage is good there with Sprint. I am still not sure who I am going to go with but it will be either sprint or verizon. I am interested in still finding out which phones have good signals with verizon. Thanks everyone for your help. |

I am a student at OSU and my parents live on west side. I have SPCS and coverage is VERY good with the Sanyo 4900 My brother goes to Columbus Acadamy over on the east side and I get a perfect signal there. Mark |

First I want to thank everyone for their help. I decided to go with Verizon and we have been happy so far (we got their service around 8pm last night). I got the motorola v120c and my husband got the motorola v60i. We have a great signal in our house...we actually only loose one bar of service....much better than with Voice Stream where we have no signal or one bar of signal strength. I also like the fact that Verizon's phones are a little bit smaller than Sprints. Once again thanks for helping me figure out what service to get. You have all been a great help. You made a great choice. I have owned phones from every carrier, except Voicestream and verizion seems to have the best digital coverage in the Columbus area and any areas if you drive to Toledo and Cleveland. AT&T may also have been a good choice it seems like they just expanded there digital coverage in Ohio, although it does not show up their map yet. The last time I drove to Toledo, I had digital coverage the whole way and it was not like that a month ago. They seem to be roaming on someone elses digital network.

Was there an improvement in husbands? They are a full "service" cell phone company. Maybe I could become one of their "loaners"? Sorry, couldn't resist. I have two family members in two parts of the country, that have sprint. They hate it, dropped calls. No service. You name it, lots of complaints. Ones in Fort Worth, other In Norfolk. |
