I just found out that I can sent text messages to and from Cingular and Verizon phones. Is this something new? Can I send text messages to and from the other providers like AT@T, SprintPCS, Nextell, or Voicestream?

From Cingular you can send to any provider as far as I know. From other providers to Cingular, I don't know.

You can do the same with Voicestream, AT&T, and Sprint PCS aswell. I think Nextel was suppose to begin starting this too. It's called inter-carrier (I think I got the word right) messaging. It allows you to send and receive text messages from any provider just by entering the area code and mobile number of the person you are trying to send it to. Some companies have not gotten the kinks out, but I know Voicestream (T-mobile) has, and I think Sprint PCS and AT&T have too.

Verizon can and I think was the first carrier to be able to. At least for the longest time I could send to Cingular but they couldnt send back.

Yes, I can get messages both ways from Verizon to Cingular, and from Cingular to Verizon. This is cool.

If Sprint can do it, then Verizon can.
