Default Need advice on how to get new phone from V.S.

I currently have 3 weeks left on my contract (basic plan 19.99) and I would like to get a new phone ( currently have Nokia 5190). I have tried several times calling Voicestream customer care and so far the best I can do is get $20 off the phone I want (Samsung N105). Amazon currently has a huge rebate making the phone free plus make $50 when purchasing it with a new plan (Even the basic plan). Should I wait until my contract is up in three weeks and try to negotiate for the phone then or buy the new plan from Amazon under my wife's name and then cancel my current plan? The Amazon rebate ends July 22 and my contract end August 6. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I know that Voicestream has a customer rewards program where they will give you discounts on phones and minute rewards after you hve been a customer 1 year. I think that if you speak with a manager they will be able to help you out.

You could always threaten to leave

You will probably be better off via amazon. I heard that VS changed their loyalty discounts a bit, so I'm not sure what they are. It used to be that the discount was 25,50,75,or $100 off the retail price, not the advertised price. What you got depended on your price plan and your length of service. I'd guess you would get either 25 or 50 off right now, but as I said it may have changed....

The only negative with going through amazon is that you would have to switch phone #'s

They are pretty cheap on eBay, $60-$95. Why not get the R225 anyways though. It looks alot better and has the same features, plus it a has a blue screen.

Well I thought I would give you guys(gals) an update. I just got off the phone with Voicestream and told them I wanted to upgrade my phone. I told them I wanted the Nokia 3390 (changed my mind on the Samsung) and they said the best they could do was $75. I told them I could get the phone locally for free plus $25 activation fee if I opened a new account. I even told them I would take the phone for $25. She came back with "The best I can do is $60" so I said I wanted to cancell. They switched me over to another person (retention team) and I told them I just wanted to get a free phone and she said she would she what she could do. She came back with the offer of a free phone with a one extension of my contract and I agreed. I thank you guys for your advice and I hope this helps anyone else would is looking at getting a new Voicestream cell phone.
