Default Help Choosing between AT&T, Voicestream and Cingular

I am the same poster from before. I figured a more accurate message title would help.

Looking for some advice. I am currently an AT&T wireless subscriber in the Chicagoland area, I have been for about 4 years now. I use their Digital One Rate plan but I am tired of paying nearly $70.00 a month after taxes and everything for 350 minutes a month. I have been taking a look at some other providers and trying to make a decision. My three choices are stick with AT&T but switch to the National Network Plan, switch to Voicestream or swith to Cingular. The one advantage I have with switching plans with AT&T is I can keep my current phone and I do not have to sign a contract with them. From everything I have read Voicestream is the largest GSM provider in the US but there have been some problems with their service in Chicago recently. From what I understand Cingular's service is good but I do not want to sign-up with them and have to buy a new phone in a year when they expand their GSM coverage. If I end up switching providers I would like to go with the Motorola V60. I have read some very good things about it. I know it comes in two versions, one that can handle GSM and one that can handle TDMA. Any help or advice would be beneficial.

If your in Chicago and and need a nationwide plan I would go with Cingular.

Cingulars plans start at $30/month for 250anytime/1000NW.

I took a Cingular brochure into an ATTWS store one time just for the fun of it and the rep did not know what to say. ATTWS is about twice as expensive as Cingular on Nationwide plans.

Wait a few weeks and Cingular will have the Nokia 6340 available. This phone will let you roam on AMPS TDMA and GSM!!!!!!!

Cingular does have good nationwide plans, by the way if you get a TDMA phone now you won't have to upgrade in a year from what I understand there still going to keep the TDMA network on for quite a little while. There has been some posts on here lately about VoiceStream having problems in Chicago, so I would avoid them.

All would be good choices

Just make sure that if you choose voicestream there will be coverage where you will need it

Voicestream's problems in Chicago will be taken care of within this month, and the problems are not their fought, they are the fought of one of their competitors who do the landline connections in Chicago; They are not installing the land-line connections on the Northern part of Chicago fast enough. The company that is suppose to be installing these line are SBC-Ameritech (owner of Cingular). Yeah, the same company that does your home-phone lines. Ahhh, SBC-Ameritech is a disgrace to all.

There is no reason not to choose Voicestream. They have good things going for them. I have been with them for almost two (2) years, and I haven't had any problems from them.

Check out this other thread that was just made today about them in Chicago:
