See article below. What a couple of cell dealers have told me is that Voicestream still doesn't have the quality of service that AT&T and Verizon has in Chicagoland. Moreover, the Chicago suburbs is expanding outward big-time and there are many places people can stumble upon or visit in neighorboring areas such as the Indiana Dunes, Rockford, Madison, Michigan (camping, beach, dunes, lakes), Wisconsin Dells, Six Flags-Great America, etc...you'll have problems getting a signal with Voicestream as you traverse outside of Chicagoland to these nearby neighoring regions and sites. Voicestream is pretty decent though in the west and northwest suburbs of Chicago. Is VoiceStream Promising More Than It Can Deliver? POSTED: 6:14 p.m. CDT April 26, 2002 UPDATED: 12:17 a.m. CDT April 27, 2002 CHICAGO -- Target 5 received dozens of complaints from VoiceStream wireless customers in the Chicago area. They talked of problems with pure static, echo noises and dropped calls. As VoiceStream wireless tries to carve a niche here, a big-name movie star pitches their product. The ads may be glitzy, but some VoiceStream customers now say the service is not so impressive. Target 5 researched whether the problem is limited to the north side neighborhood where some complaining consumers live or if VoiceStream is promising more than it can deliver. "I've been having a lot of dropped calls and whistling in the phone," customer Helen Marshall said. "You can hear it echoing." Another VoiceStream customer said, "A friend of mine says she had to call me at least 10 times for me to actually get the call." When Jose Ruiz first got the phone he said, "They guaranteed me that I was going to have service in this area. That didn't turn out that way." One customer told NBC5 News, "I hear, like, two mice fighting in a tunnel, that's how it sounds, real obnoxious. You literally have to move the phone away from your ear." Annoying noises seem to be there sometimes, but calls, they said, often are not. Dropped calls are another common issue "I have children, transplant children. So if the school calls me or anyone calls me, it's real important that I get contacted," Marshall said. Ruiz said, "I got this phone to talk to my son in the suburbs. Now I can't." A VoiceStream spokeswoman told Target 5 the company is aware of serious service complaints concentrated on the city's north side. A project is under way that would increase the company's line capacity in the area by 75 percent. They maintain that glitches should be cleared up in another four weeks. On the whole, the Better Business Bureau said VoiceStream has a good track record. According to the BBB, they received 108 complaints against VoiceStream over the past three years. All of them were resolved. Consumers who are in the dark about improvements hope the company will continue to keep its word. Ruiz said, "Now they got me because, if I cancel, I would have to pay a $150 cancellation fee." A VoiceStream spokeswoman said the company plans to contact each consumer who complained to Target 5 and, on a case-by-case basis, plans to compensate some of them with free minutes. |

The same thing happened in the Washington market, It took them years to even fix a couple cities in the state. And Still to this day, they haven't entirely corrected the problem. My cousin who lives in Federal Way, WA still experience those exact same problems. He's been waiting for 6 years for them to improve their service, the only reason he still has them is he's still on my old employee plan from 6 years ago. For $20 bucks a month I guess he really can't complain. But for those who pay full price, I feel bad...

I am sure they will take care of those problems.

Yeah I'm sure they will take care of them too, the Better Business Bureau did say that they have taken care of every one of their complaints. This one shouldn't be different. Increasing capacity by 75% is alot. That is like building the network over again for that area.

This was on the usenet board last month - evidently he problem is a lack of landline connections to the network - not enought truck capacity (Ameritech or whoever owns them - SBC?) is responsible for putting those in for the carriers.

Ahhh, enough said. Another SBC-Ameritech problem. Man I can't stand SBC. Their entire company is just that, a "problem." I bet Cingular doesn't have this problem. SBC will probably prolong the needed maintenance purposely. I hope not though, that is not the way that a company should do business, but that may be the way that SBC is. |

I think what Bobolito means is that the RBOCs (regional Bells - SBC, Bell South, Verizon, PacBell, etc) take their good old time in adding capacity on the landline side for their wireless competitors. Don't want to let them sign up too many people too fast - wouldn't be good for their wireless business...

Exactly Matt, that's what I meant. I've seen other companies such as Internet service providers sueing Verizon saying that they neglect to rapidly add capacity and creates problems for the ISP.

I have voicestream it is the worst experience ever!! They said that they would give me 6 months free and i have the 3000 anytime package. What good is that when you can't even get a signal?? They told me they are having problems because they are merging with AT&T. I have had it a month and i have canceled to go to Nextel or maybe Verizon |

Anonymous' whole post sounds ludicrous. What company would be stupid enough to offer 6 months of free wireless service?

Agreed, Kevin he has his facts totally wrong AT&T and VoiceStream are not merging and there is no way any wireless company would offer a customer 6 free months of wireless service. Chances are if Anonymous is even telling the truth which I doubt he is, he is a victim of his own ignorance. |

No provider would offer 6 free months of service. If they did why would you cancel them? Jack

I was told this by the center assistant for support. In the chicagoland area. They offer us this because they have been getting so many complaints. I have cancelled. THey did offer 6 months free, and i don't have to pay the early cancellation fee. I was on the phone with Vstream for 2 and 1/2 hours. Why would i make up a story like that for the people that don't believe me?!? Why do you think that some body would make up a story like that?? Do you loser think that i would just sit at home thinking of a story to type to respond to this?? |

they offered it to me but i declinded it. It is cancelled on June 18. Otherwise i would sell it to someone. What good is 6 months if it doesn't work in the first place? |

I forgot... the sad thing is i liked the company, i still do. I think that they will very soon be a very good company. I loved my phone, i am begining to think the problem was the phone. I hope one day that i will get to rejoin with them. |

What kind of phone do you have? Is it a Motorola T193? If you like the company than stay with them. They said they will have the problem fixed in Chicago in four (4) weeks, and we obviously see that the problem is not Voicestream's fought, it's SBC who is putting in the landline connections who is taking so long to do it. It's not like Voicestream is having this problem all across the U.S,; it's only in your area. |

Sprint had the same exact problem however, Sprint was much worse than VS. At least Voicestream admits that there is a problem. Everytime that I called Sprint's customer service they showed no problems in the Chicago area. I had "All circuits are busy" for about 4 months. Then the local NBC station does a report on the problems with Sprint and finally they admit the problem. I switched to VS when it launched in Chicago and I have never had any major problems with it. I get good signal pretty much wherever I go in the Chicago area. VS has been great to me. I just wished they carried the Ericsson T68. I agree SBC Ameritech really SUCKS!! |

I'm glad to see that Aztlan is just as happy with Voicestream as I am. Also Aztlan, I would like to inform you that they will be carrying the T68 sometime this month. I have heard that Ericsson has sent them to the Voicestream/T-Mobile distribution center.
