| I am planning on signing a 12 month contract with Cingular (Milwaukee) (800 TDMA/AMPS). I am signing up with their Nationwide 150 plan for $35/month. Does anyone know if Cingular's Nationwide plans will allow me to roam in Canada and/or Mexico? US Cellular's (Milwaukee) (800 TDMA/AMPS) Nationwide plans let you roam in Canada and at no extra charge!! They do not tell you this, but it's true. I am not sure about Mexico/US Cellular. Verizon also has Canada roaming, not sure about Mexico. Please advise HK |

Yeah I'm not sure about Cingular nor Verizon...but I do know that AT&T and Sprint PCS has digital roaming in Canada. Sprint PCS has also some digital coverage/roaming in Mexico as well. One caution about Mexico, be careful about using your phone on Analog mode in Mexico! I was in Mexico city and used my AT&T phone just a couple of times but was in Analog Roaming mode and guess what? My number was stolen from the airwaves! Someone was listening electronically and were able to duplicate my number/signal. They ended up making about $2000 worth of charges to my account from all places in Mexico. When I was back in Chicago utilizing my phone with no problems and then about a week later a call I was attempting to make was transferred to the AT&T fraud dept. They were going to immediately cut my line and give me a new number...AT&T took on the loss and removed all of the fraudulent calls from my account. AT&T Fraud dept had noticed that while I was in Chicago making phone calls, someone with the same AT&T number was making phone calls from Mexico! You can't have multiple phone calls originating from Chicago and Mexico throughout the day and so that's how AT&T caught it. |

To specifically (critical analysis) address your question: "Does anyone know if Cingular's Nationwide plans will allow me to roam in Canada and/or Mexico?" The answer is: NO. None of the carriers' national plans include non-national roaming. National means within our nation, it does not mean within the continent. However, just as Kenny mentions, most carriers do have add-ons for a price. |

Kevin, Just as I mentioned, US Cellular's "National" plan SAYS they only cover the USA, but they throw in Canada for free. I was just wondering if this might be the case with Cingular. HK |

thanks. Once again I'v learned something new. I've never heard of a carrier throwing in Canada and/or Mexico into a national plan.

Sprint has digital roaming in most major cities in Mexico on a network called 'Pegaso' that they own 50% of so the roaming costs are minimal. Sprint customers with either a single or dual band phone and with PRL of 10011 or higher can access this network.

| Looks like cloning is alive and well in Mexico. It is pretty much extinct in the USA. |

For ten dollars more a month on the Verizon Single Rate National Plan you can call and roam in canada all you want, it just uses your normal peak minutes.

Hey Larry...do you know if Cabo San Lucas/San Jose is one of these cities? I called Sprint, and they said only Mexico city, but we all know that Sprint reps have no idea what they are talking about. Tell me if you know whether or not Sprint has coverage there, or where I could find out. I'm going there in March. Also, will it cost extra, just like regular roaming? Thanks.

Current cities that are covered by Sprint's Pegaso network in Mexico are: Guadalajara, Chapala, Monterey, Mexico City, Tijuana, Enseneda, Toluca, Nuevo Laredo, and Reynosa with more coming in the future. Roaming rate of .39 cents a minute will apply in Mexico. Larry |

I asked Cingular, this was there reply. The cost for roaming is .69 and long distance is .24 a minute for both Canada and Mexico. Thank You Wanda Cingular Wireless HK |
