Hi DiverDown, According to CNET, the LG VX1 is to be released in December. It is the next generation of the TM510. The TM510 has a very strong following (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tm510) The CNET link I gave above also shows other phones expected to hit the market in December. (CNet is usually correct about release dates.) Other than that, the only other phone I would recommend is probably the Nokia 3285. Kevin |

I've heard pretty good things about the Motorola V60c. It's a high end phone that is currently being offered through Verizon. I say that knowing full well there might be a recall on the V60 series but from what I'm hearing it is the V60t that is being recalled (TDMA version). Even if there is a recall it will only be a software upgrade and then you will get a new phone. I haven't heard anything about the LG VX1, other than what I've read from Kevin. Good Luck on your search and eventual purchase of a new phone. Please update the message board on what you decide and how you like it. Tom |

They have a great deal on the StarTac7868 right now. $69.99 after rebate. I remember back around 1994, Ameritech was selling anolog StarTac phones for about $1,200.00 with a contract, yes twelve hundred dollars. Of course I wouldn't pay that much for a phone, so when they came down in price, I finally got one. I have been using a StarTac for 18 months now and have been really happy with it. I have a dual slot desk charger with a slot for the phone and a slot for a spare battery. I always let my batteries discharge fully then I charge them, despite what they say, I still think that I get more time out of them and that the battery will have a longer lifetime. It only takes about 3 seconds to snap off the dead battery and snap on the charged one. I never have to wait for my phone to charge. The battery talk and standby time is good. The phone has a confortable feel when you are holding it up to your ear. I don't think it will be obsolete anytime soon, considering how long the style has been out. I can also open it with one hand, by sliding it across my chest if a hand is full. It may not be the latest and greatest phone, but it is certainly worth the price for what you get. You don't even know that you are wearing it.

I was looking at all the phones that Verizon offers. Wow. I have no idea how to tell which would be the better ones. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the StarTAC Info, but the phone that I am looking to replace is the P8767 Timeport, which last year was there premier phone, though now its features seem quite lack luster for a phone still valued at 249.99 (Of course my impatient self had to get it when its $300). I am a gold member which means means I have to pay only $50 for any phone $200 or less, which basically means I get $150 off any phone. I would get the V60c but even my crazy gadget self has problems with paying $350 dollars for a phone (and yes thats with my discount meaning the phone does retail for a whopping $500). Maybe if I can go to a foreign country for a month I might be able to resist the tempation of buying a phone till the LG VX1 comes out. Yeah I know I need help.

DiverDown, Hey, you & I must be long-lost twins separated at birth or something. My wife calls me "Mr. Pushybuttons" because I am an incurable gaget enthusiast. The peripherals off my PC look worse than Madusa's head of snakes. I'm running two power strips off one outlet just for the PC and it "children." Kevin :-) |

The surface on the Motorola Timeport does not hold up as good as the black StarTac 7868. The silver surface scratches easily and eventually peals. They end up looking terriable because the plastic underneath is black, so they are black everywhere they are scratched or where they are pealing.

Ummm, CDMA uh thanks for your opinion on my old phone, but uh what does that have to do with the heading of this forum which is (Need new Verizon Phone). If the heading was Opinoin on Timeport P8767 your statment would have been usefull. |

uh That message was for everyone reading THIS THREAD. Not just for YOU. I would not create a new thread just for that. Anyway, my point was that the VERIZON StarTac holds up better then the VERIZON Timeport, a phone YOU mentioned in this thread. And YOU may not believe this, but there may be others in this world reading this who also "need new VERIZON phone", and have not previously owned the Timeport. Now can you see why I posted it here? I hope so.
