I remember having a debate about Verizon's Night-time minute plans several months ago on this board...I stated that Verizon's "Night" minutes started at 9pm, others here (eg. Kevin & Larry) claimed 7pm. Well it turned out that we were debating over different markets. It seemed that the Western region's "Night" minutes began at 7pm with Verizon but Chicago (MidWest) began at 9pm.

Well Subscribers gotta read the fine print from now on...
Guess what? Verizon's "Night" minutes now begins at 10pm in the Chicagoland area.

Also, Sprint PCS "Night" minutes now begin at 9pm for new customers signing up now and I *believe* also for existing customers wishing to upgrade to a newer/current rate plan.

Good old AT&T is still offering the more practical 8pm start for "Night" minutes.

Actually, Kenny, I was one of those arguing that it started at 9PM and, like you, determined that it was not only market-specific but also timed/offer-specific. I found out that those starting service before 9/2001 had their nights starting at 7pm here on the West Coast. But after that it changed to 9pm. While Verizon was adding free minutes to off-peak hours, they were also increasing the time people would be on peak minutes. It all boils down to a marketing scheme.

(Here's the deal: You can have one scoop of ice cream for $1 or you can have all the free ice cream you want, as long as buy our cone for $10 and all the ice cream must fit in the cone.) You tell me, which is the better deal? If you happen to be a person with a small appetite, the first might be better. If you are an inexperienced teen who didn't pay attention the final part of the clause, you might pick the second.

Yes I see what you're saying but AT&T's plan in your example would be more like a $3.95 all you can eat Ice-Cream Buffet just down the street.

Yes Sprint has joined Cingular here in So. Cal. and now has nights starting at 9PM for all new plans. Those of us who have the old plans will still have the 8PM start for as long as we are on the plan.

Isn't it likely that AT&T will be the next to start at 9PM?

Apparently AT&T is also using Cingular in some regions such as California to provide Voice service for GSM/GPRS customers.

Will AT&T be pressured to bump up their 8pm start time?
I don't know. Guess I'm gonna have to rally AT&T fans to send emails to voice our opinion. Perhaps I gotta type up a letter to AT&T's CEO and Executives.

Did you know that AT&T Wireless in Canada offers Unlimited Night minutes starting after 6pm? What's up with up with everyone moving to 9 and 10pm? I really hope AT&T sticks it to the competition and stays with 8pm.

Verizon's Night minutes also end at 6am verus 7am for AT&T and Sprint.

Anonymous,

I am afraid you dont quite have all of your "facts".

SunCom's Nights and Weekend minutes start at 8PM.

Now, if you choose one of our Simply More plans, you get 3000 n/w minutes FREE and THOSE start at 10PM. Those are built into the plan.

However, All other N/W packages are 8PM-7AM. On cities plans $35.00 or higher you get UNLIMITED N/W FREE and those start at 8PM as well. Or you can chose to pay for night/weekend minutes on other plans, and they will start at 8PM.

So, you see, your statement that "SunCom's start at 10PM" is not entirely correct.

Yes, I forgot about the California exception. Mind you it was originally 7:01pm.

Leah, you keep talking about Suncom's Simply More plans. I presently am on their nation wide plan, $35 for 150 minutes. I keep asking custome service if they are offering anything to match Cingular and Verizon's 3000 min. night and weekend promotion and they keep telling me "No". I am pleased with the service, but if I can get the promotion from their competitors, I'll have to go. Is this Simply More plan competitive with that of Verizon and Cingular? I can find nothing about it on their website.

Thanks,
Bill

I believe Suncom's Simply More plans are only in Tennessee and also be reminded that there are 2 Suncom's. Basically same brand and technology but in different areas and with different rate plans.
