Default Carrier tower locations

I live in Gonzales, Louisiana, which is mostly rural. I have Verizon cell service which does not work at work, it is very spotty at home, and mostly doesn't work in between. Get the picture? I know that Cingular used to have good service in this area, but I don't know if that is still true with the rollout of GSM. ATT plans better fit my needs, but I don't know if their coverage is as good as Cingular's (used to be). Would I do better to get a (more expensive) trimode phone that has GSM/TDMA, and do I have to pay more for service that would use either of those (and what is it called)? How do I find maps of the towers for the different services, and how do I know who shares the towers? I understand that I can get a 30 day guarantee, but I would like to whittle down the choices somewhat. And if I go in to the stores one more time and talk to one more idiot, I will probably end up slapping him.

Default Carrier tower locations

You can find locations (and photo's) of Sprint PCS towers at http://www.sprintsites.com
You have to enter a screen name and e-mail address to use the site. I have found it to be very interesting.

Another site, http://www.berkana.com/tower.php3 will find the taller towers with FCC registration numbers. It doesn't find very many of the towers in my area (Sandy, UT).

I've found a web site, http://www.sfbacell.com that has a few links to sites that show locations of cell towers.

Good luck.

And what's good about this new Sprint tower location page is that it also lists the many affiliate tower locations which sprintsitesusa.com does not.

Yeah, Sprint's new tower map is incredible. I spent about 3 hours playing with that the first day they came out with it!

Cingular is still good in the Baton Rouge area, I've used their service before and after the GSM addition. Same switch, same cell sites, same antennas, just different radios for you and the site. ATT is on PCS in the cities and along the highways between--rural could still be handled by roaming on Cingular (using the same TDMA phone, switching from 1900 to 800 MHz) and that would make the coverage look the same. Your other cellular provider is Alltel, who bought Baton Rouge Cellular and RadioTel in New Orleans.

I prefer the Nokia 6340i GAIT (GSM-ANSI136-Interoperability-Team) phone that I've had a year now. I got it after the turnon of GSM in Memphis, so I didn't see it operate TDMA untill I travelled to Monroe, LA at Christmas. It's only offered with the National plan right now, the Local plan offers dualband GSM phones like the Nokia 3395.
