I would choose Verizonicon or Alltel, depending on which company will give you a local number. If you need the phone nationwide, and can get a Verizonicon number where you are I would choose Verizonicon. Verizon and Alltel are mutual roaming partners, so their national coverage areas are about the same. Verizon does have a few more roming partners.
Verizon tends to have a little better rates, especially if you add features like voicemail. Alltel charges for pretty much every feature you add.
If you travel to anywhere in Nebraska, other than Omaha, with Verizon you can use the Alltel network. Alltel has Nebraska covered better than any other provider. All towers are digital.
It all boils down to which carrier will give you a local number and which will give you the best rate.
I am in Lincoln and I have an Alltel National Freedom Plan. I have used Verizon's network in KC, Chicago, Des Moines, Ft. Collins, Miami, and a few other areas. I have always had great service. If Verizon would give me a local number, they would be my choice.

Depends on where in NE you want to use your phone. A lot of places CellularONE would benefit you but in a lot of places they may not. It really depends on how rural you are. CellularONE's local NE plans do not cover Omaha but their regional and national PPs do. Their National PPs allow you to use your phone on any compatible roaming tower not just on their nationwide network. But if the service doesn't work where you need it to there's no point in having that benefit. My best advice would be to try the carriers with the best rate plans first and if the service works for you then stick with them, if not then use their initial satisfaction period to cancel without an early termination penalty and try the carrier with the next best rate plans and so forth and so on, etc.

Oh yeah and CellularONE just upgraded their system in Nebraska from TDMA to CDMA.
Is it too much to ask for a phone with physical buttons?
