Default Motorola 250/Cingular difficulties, Please help!

I've been a Cingular subscriber for awhile, and the Nokia i got with the plan sucks. I'm trying to use my Motorola 250 that I bought in Italy. I installed the Cingular SIM chip, but it will only pick up "Voicestream" and "USA-380" but not Cingular or USA-410 (the ID I understand is Cingular's) I can make and receive calls, but I'm sure I'll be hit with roaming charges. Can anyone tell me why I can't get Cingular?

I have a Timeport 250 as well. It has always worked great for me in Europe.

The 250 has GSM 900/1800 and 1900, NO GSM 850.

Cingular is probably GSM 850 in your area, the 250 is not able to pick up that band.

Hope this helps...

Yes, Cingular is on 800 MHz throughout Illinois. Your Motorola 250 will work on Cingular in NYC, the Carolinas, east Tennessee, coastal Georgia, Nevada, California, and Washington on the 1900 MHz band. (and Dyersburg, TN closest market to Cairo, IL)

So which Nokia did you get with your plan? I'm very happy with the ones I've used.

COtech

(BTW, USA-380 is ATT Wireless.)
