Hey I have a question.....I live in Rochester,Mn and I was wondering what type of service would be the best to choose.....I am looking for something that would include northern MN as well as northern Wisconsin..without roaming charges...I have basically looked at Sprint, Midwest Wireless, T-mobil, and At&T...all of them have pretty crappy coverage...unless you want to pay a lot of money....I have been looking at verizon...but they don't have service here...but why couldn't I use the phones if I was on the national plan....but what would I loose????....I was also looking at some of their phones the lgvx3100...since it is only 50..but it states only digital coverage....is there digital coverage here in rochester???...your input would be much appreciated!!!!!!

Well if you don't need a cell phone asap there will be a new player in Rochester soon. Not really sure how much or what will be covered but US Cellular will be opening in that area sometime soon. How soon I havn't a clue, but this could open a regional plan including mn. This would provide you with a good price plan with the coverage you need. Hope this is some help.

Verizon most likely wont activate you because you don't live in their coverage area. In Rochester you should be useing Midwest Wireless's towers now that they have their CDMA system up and running. Right now Verizon does not offer northern WI as part of their normal plans, only the national single rate (big $$$$$), but that could change any time if they ever get a good agreement worked out with Alltel in that area. If you did get service somehow through VZW you would always be on the "extended network" unless you travel up to the metro area often. When you are off their network alot of times the extra stuff like Caller ID, VM notification, SMS, ect. doesn't work, and your mobile to mobile minutes dont apply. If all you were concerned about was being able to make and recieve voice calls it could work for you. About the last part of your question, the whole sourthern half of MN is digital, the northern half of the state still has alot of analog only, so it depends on where you are going as to wether or not you need a phone with analog.
