Default VZW's and Appalachian Wireless

In the new PRL Appalachian Wireless is added as VZW native coverage in Elliott and Powell markets in KY.

This seems very strange and makes me wonder what might be to come? One possibility is that this could of been a mistake... the other possibilities:

Is VZW on the road to aquisition of Appalachian Wireless?

Has there been a new agreement between the two which will continue to expand AC's footprint in KY?

I was just curious as to everybody's thoughts on this and what to make of it.

Given that the same PRL is reported to have VZW Nashville as Extended Network and other VZW markets as Extended and roaming, I believe it's a goof.

Apparently they need to hire justalurker or some other "data miner" to check it before it's released.

So what is the number 1 priority in the PRL for Nashville if it isn't VZW native coverage? I could see how a goof like that could really mess up Nashville residents that use VZW.

Well Sprint was removed in Nashville so that leaves only VZW in this prl in that area that I'm aware of. So I guess people will just wonder why they are always on extended network.

Yes, it makes one wonder what they're thinking. Twice in the last year, Verizon assigned their own service with either a Solid or Flashing Roam PRL on it's entire Wyoming network. And now it's happened in Montana, Nashville and a few other places.

Might this be an extension of that east coast mentality, that anything west of the Hudson just doesn't matter?

At least in Wyoming and Montana, although a serious error, the population affected is minimal. Perhaps I could understand the oversight in the proofreading process (though not excuse it). In a large metro area like Nashvile though? I don't understand how that could slip through the cracks. You may be right Bill, it may be a situation where they just don't check things out too close when it pertains to something so "far away" like TN or MT or WY.

Also, why mess with the VZW SID's in a PRL anyway?? Who writes the software?

Well I find it strange that nothing has been said... something as major as extended network in Nashville would definitely be fixed quickly. Maybe a plain format conversion error?

When you do *228 option 2 does the phone download a PRL everytime, or only if it notices a newer version? Would Verizon have to re-number a corrected PRL?

Yes, a PRL is always downloaded. No, they don't have to renumber a corrected PRL (IIRC, VZW actually did have two different versions of the same number PRL once.)

Was checking around... from mountainwireless.com:

Quote:
This PRL was originally released with several errors, then corrected on August 12, 2003. If your roaming indicator seems wrong, you should upgrade the PRL again. Some changes don't make sense, so we expect either another revision, or a new PRL, soon. The biggest error is showing "Roam" or "Extended" in Verizon home areas. Other changes before the "correction" were significant, many adding new Extended areas. We expect another change, soon
