I will be traveling cross country by car for the next six weeks. I will be heading north from CA through Oregon to Idaho and Montana, and then onto Chicago. From there onto Maine and then down to the Carolinas and back through Texas and the Southwest. I have narrowed it down to Sprint and Verizon. Interested in the single rate long distance, no roaming charge plans each offers. The biggest catch with Sprint that I am aware of so far is their requirement that half of your minutes used, must be on their PCS network. Regarding Verizon they do not offer unlimited night and weekend, which seems to me to be a significant disadvantage. Any of your first hand experience with these issues would be welcomed. Sprint says you get unlimited WWW access that does not count against your Anytime Minutes (with the "Vision" plan), is this true any catches/surprises that I should be aware of. Any pros and cons regarding Sprint vs. Verizon would be appreciated as well, and good reference for the archives. Also will I have any headaches changing my plan to a less expensive regional plan, when I return home. I appreciate your insights and will post the results of my experience when i return. Thanks... |

If you go with Sprint, almost all of the time you are traveling between the coasts you will not be on their PCS network (the commercials lie). My mother-in-law has Sprint in California and she says it sucks big time. There are places in L.A. (like my sister-in-law's house in Ingelwood) that she has to walk out of the building and up the street to make or receive a call. I would also suggest that you look at the thread originated by AnthroMatt about his latest experience with Sprint. IMHO, if I were going to embark on a trip like you describe, Sprint would not be my choice. I think Verizon Wireless will serve your purpose better even without unlimited nights and weekends. Enjoy your trip!

I think Verizon would be the better choice as well. You may even be able to get by on the America's Choice plan rather than the NSR plan too. Also, Sprint doesn't offer regional plans anymore (to my knowledge), so if you want to switch to a regional plan later Verizon is your only real option.

you should be fine on the americas choice plan, if you find your roaming a lot travelling, call 611 and change it, but ac covers most major interstates, and many non major ones. the reason iwould do verizon, is with sprint, most of your roaming will be analog. verizon has more digital coverage and when your roam, youll use digital most of the time, if its avalible.
