Hi all, new to this site so need some advice. I am moving to chicago and wanted to switch companies. I am currently using Sprint and it is horrible. I was thinking about Nextel or T-mobile or ATT. If anyone in the chicago area knows which is better for coverage and service, please help me. Thanks in advance.

Kijaho, Without question, the two best carriers for coverage are Verizon amd Cingular. Of those two, I would prefer Verizon. But the other carriers most likely are MUCH better in CHI than where you are. After you move, visit a store with multiple choices, and choose a phone and plan of your liking. Take it and test it where you think you'll need it. Sprint may actually work as good as any, so hold on and try them first. They were getting tons of complaints in here a year ago, and must have improved Chicago coverage significantly for the complaints to go away. If it doesn't work, try another. -Bill |

My first post!! Anyway, out of those three I would highly recommend T-Mobile. I have had great experiences with them. If money is no object and you want very complete coverage, I would go with Verizon. Works almost everywhere. |

Thanks for the great info. I had verizon wireless before but the biggest problem I had with them was the charge for voicemails. Basically, I was being charged to check my voicemail as well as being charged for someone leaving a voicemail. This got so bad that I bascially turned off my voicemail. Has this changed? If so, I would definitely re-consider verizonwireless again. Again, thanks.

There is no charge if someone leaves you a voicemail. Also, it only uses your minutes when you check the voicemail frome the phone...no hidden charges.

It uses minutes on prepaid service for leaving voicemail.

I'd say T-Mobile I have no complaints about them.

US Cellular now offers service in Chicago through the recent acquisition of Primeco's service there, I don't know how they are in Chicago though. http://www.uscc.com/uscellular/Silve...showphone.html |

I've heard reports that USCC is having some problems in the greater Chicago area. They are also bringing in truck mounted mobile equipment to fill in the gaps and problem areas.

no way on ATT for Chicago. I have had all four ATT and Cingular of both TDMA and GSM varieties. Cingular TDMA is best, then Cingular GSM, then ATT TDMA and finally ATT GSM. ATT may have better maps, but CIngular provides better quality service, hands down |

ATT actually relies quite a bit on Cingular in the outter regions of Chicago and beyond to fill-in the coverage gaps.
