Default Connecting a laptop to internet via cell phone.

Is it possible to get full internet capabilities by connecting a laptop to a cell phone? (Just like a home computer with everything including pictures)?

If so, how can you do it?

Will a cell phone use wireless data to do this? Is there a way to get internet with voice service if you are roaming and can't access wireless internet data?

I know a lot about cell phones, but nothing about connecting one to a computer. Any information would be helpful. Thanks

its easy to do it with verizon just make sure you have mobile web(6.99 a month) if you have that you get wap and 100 text messages and access to quicknet....you set up you phone as a modem...and then dial #777 username/password qnc/qnc its not the fastest connection but it gives you full internaet acess and unlimited d/l(access) ... then if you want fast internet acess from what i know you can get either sprint or verizon's data plan...which are a bit more expensive..

Codepyro - CDMA dosn't need to sign up for mobile web to use his phone as a modem. All he needs to do is to get the data cable for his V60i & the USB Motorola handset drivers. Then he needs to set up a internet connection like you mention.

Default Connecting a laptop to internet via cell phone.

budney is correct

all he needs to do is buy the mobile office kit which will have the usb cable and the driver cd and the mobile office cd which will instal the program he needs. then all he does is hit connect and he is in business it runs about 14.4 unless u are in an area that has express network and your phone is express network capable then u can burst up to 124+. keep in mind everytime u sign on the internet using your phone as a modem u are using your airtime minutes. the only time it is unlimited is if u have unlimitied minutes.

-not only am i a verizon customer i worked for the company for 2.5 years.-

You do not need Verizon's data software & cable. You can purchase a cable from www.thesupplynet.com ($40-$60) , www.gomadic.com ($40), eBay ($8 & up), and/or any local radioshack ($20). Then download the right drivers for your phone, do a search on these forums to find a link. Then hook the phone up to your computer, and then install the drivers. Then click here to go to Verizon's site for instructions on how to set up the connection on your OS. This is for there Quick2Net service (14.4K).

Express Network tip: If you want to use it with a PDA do not get a T720 or a V120e. The data rate on the phone & PDA must match. The Moto phones do not have the 115,200 data rate so it will not work on a PDA, but Quick2Net will work fine with these two phones & a PDA.

Default Connecting a laptop to internet via cell phone.

I am still a little confused. I am in the Detroit area and I have free mobile web on my Verizon phone (V60i), I also have 3500 night and weekend minutes. I live close to a Verizon tower so the signal is great.

Does this mean that I can connect my Verizon phone to my laptop or home computer, connect a cord and correct software and surf the web all night for free?

Seems too good to be true? What am I Missing?

What kind of data speeds will I have in Detroit and how do they compare to dial up and cable?

All help is appreciated. Thanks

what your missing is that the data speed is only 14.4 - 19.2 kbs(for free)....but theoritically yes you can do this...infact i used this when i moved for about 1 month till i could get dsl... if you want higher data speeds 144 kb/s max, average speed(60 kbs) little faster than a modem...you have to pay per megabyte or buy the unlimited plan for 79.99...

there is hardly a difference between regular dial-up and 60KB. But going from 14.4 to 60KB is as clear as night & day, much faster.

Yes, I want to have a minimum speed of dial up. According to Verizon's web site, my v60i is not express network compatable. Is this true? It seems like it should be since the v120e is compatable.

Does Cingular GSM offer anything good for doing this with my new T-720?

verizon will soon release the v60p which has the push to talk(walkie talkie) button and is express network compatible.. and 60 kbs is average...you can go as high as 144 at offpeak hours or if not many people around you do not use this service...
