I am getting an additional cell phone and was thinking about US cellular. I have a few questions though. How much is text messenging if you don't get their text messenging package? How is coverage in the western Chicago Suburbs? I'm looking at their website and it appears they have no wireless web????

USCC has a very limited version of incoming email. Messages up to 160 characters are received at their SMTP web site, and converted into SMS messages. No reply is possible. You can use their web clipping service to get a variety of messages sent to your phone. These messages include headlines, NOAA weather alerts for a specific zipcode, lottery numbers, horoscopes, etc. The USCC web service should launch sometime this year. Full in/out email should launch at about the same time. While their end-user technology (email, web, etc) is a bit behind the "leading edge", USCC has a history of being very careful to do things right. I've never had problems with an area they claim to cover, and have had excellent luck in fringe areas too. Their customer service is excellent. I've grown to depend on the services offered by some of the other carriers that I use. That dependance may force me to switch more (all?) of my coverage to those carriers, but U.S. Cellular has been very good to me. -PatP |

The cost for each message you originate is 10 cents if you do not have a package plan. There is no charge for incoming messages with or without a package plan. If you want to join, we have several members from Chicago in our group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/usccusers/

however, that is for m2m sms only, if you want to receive web alerts via sms, you have to have "email" service (which, as said before is one-way for now), but it allows anyone to send text from any email box (they would send it to ##########@uscc.textmsg.com or something like that...the "#"'s being your 10-digit cell number), i believe the price is $2/month, but it's included for free if you have the advanced mobile messaging package ($5/month) Keep the Faith, Lance |
