Post Any experience with Sprint Tower leases?

Our building has a Sprint Cellular tower on top. Sprint leases the space but now wants to re-negotiate the lease after 1 year at less cost or they may cancel the lease. Does anyone have experience with these kinds of deals?

Sprint has more negotiating power for lease deals now that they have merged with Nextel. They could easily co-locate their CDMA equipment on Nextel towers and get rid of many redundant towers that are not needed if the cost to keep them is too high.

I would research where the nearest Nextel tower is. If it is fairly close, you may want to consider renegotiating with them....

Look up the local Sprint and Nextel sites and find out who owns the structures they are on. If they are not company-owned, a switch may not be so easy.

Does Sprint Nextel also have towers leased to them by tower companies such as Crown Castle, SpectraSite or American Tower?

If so, these links might also be interesting:

www.spectrasite.com

Indeed they do. In fact Nextel Partners, which is not yet owned by Sprint, owns almost no towers - they lease. They provide Nextel coverage more or less in the rural areas and smaller towns, while Nextel Communications provides service in the big, urban markets.

Most carriers would rather lease than own the structures. it ties up too much capital to own.

So - your links definitely apply. American Tower now owns Spectrasite, and Crown is big in the East & mid-west. A bunch of other tower owning companies such as SBA, Towerco etc too.
