Default VZW update in St. Clound MN

Just visited the St Cloud area this weekend and found that the network conversion seems to be completely done now. They changed from SID 534 to SID 26 to match the metro area's network. Not sure if they changed the AMPS SID also, as I have a digital only phone. Also all features seem to be working now, including WAP 2.0, which were not working a few months ago. There is no longer a nasty hole on the coverage south of Clearwater where the border of the two networks was. No EVDO of course, but hey, we can't have evreything.

Seems like Verizonicon is expanding their native footprint into quite a few new areas lately

I believe that conversion was completed the last weekend of September.

Something I did notice this past weekend is that they are using the Qwest spectrum in Kandiyohi county! Was getting a PCS signal around New London, didn't check Spicer, because I was assuming it was still Extended over there, didn't look at the phone. Didn't go to Willmar.

I'd guess VZWicon spends a lot on roaming in that area. It's a big tourist area.

So they have some new native VZWicon coverage running on 1900MHz out west, or is this still an area that the CMS deal covers, just redundant coverage?

According to the Verizonicon coverage locator it would seem they've opened up the spectrum that they received from Qwest. It covers beyond the tri-county area that CMS covered and goes down to wilmar on the south west and rochester in the south east farther up 169 and 35 on the north east and slightly farther on i94 towards alexandria but not reaching it.

That is cool. I haven't checked the coverage locator in a while. That is the biggest change VZWicon has made here in years.

The only way VZW will be in Nothern MN is for them to buyout Rural Cellular and don't see Verizonicon on the bandwagon to do this. Maybe Alltel will.
