Default Anyone here in Southern IL

Just curious how Cingular's coverage is in the Harrisburg/Eldorado area.
I went to one of their kiosks in the mall & they did some checking on their computer. They talked like coverage would be spotty for where I live.
Comments?

Well, you seem to be surrounded by Cingular service--but there is none in the Harrisburg/Eldorado area. Cingular has no licenses, cellular or PCS, covering there. Roaming GSM service would be available from First Cellular of Southern Illinois; your other cellular provider is Verizon.

Cingular does offer service AROUND you, in Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and the Illinois portion of the Saint Louis market.

I'm currently using VZW. I've heard complaints about 1st Cellular (which my wife has). They have a decent plan...unlimited minutes for $39.99/mo, but it's just for the lower 22 counties. If one had their share plan, the 2nd line only gets 100 minutes & unlimited n & w. I'd be tempted to jump if they offered unlimited anytime minutes AND 100 or so roaming minutes AND a better shared plan, but alas, they don't. Me & the wife have been thinking of getting a share plan if we can find one w/a decent amount of minutes for less than what we're paying individually now for our 2 services.
I'm not familiar with Cingular's customer service. A friend in central IL has them & isn't that thrilled w/their customer service. I'm also not familiar with their plans as far as the roaming would go. There's alot of hills & alot of dead spots for even VZW around here.

As far as coverage goes, at least in my area, I think VZW does. As far as the plans go, if one stays & makes phone calls strictly in So. IL, the 1st Cellular gets the nod. Like I said earlier, I have VZW & the boss has 1st Cell so it works out pretty good for us since we don't have a landline anymore. She can call her sister & talk all she wants & I have my plan for when we go out of town.
One thing I don't like about 1st Celluar, though...one time my wife took her bro-in-law for chemo in Marion, IL. She made a call from inside the hospital & it picked up a non-1st cell tower, which put her on roam which gave her an added charge. While they gave us a one-time credit, we complained, stating that she WAS in their calling area. They said "they don't control the airwaves" & if it happens again, she'll be charged. Like I said, they don't have the best customer service. Read their fineprint about charges not showing up on the proper statement.
Here's a link to 1st Cellular in case you're curious about their calling plans.

Is this First Cellular a Cingular reseller.....like Centennial wireless in Indiana/Michigan? When I was in Southern Illinois....I was roaming on what my tag said was "USAFC"

When dialing 611 it auto forwarded to Cingular C/S

I guess it is them What I understood they were CDMA only and they do both Occurring to roamer1

First Cellular Southern IL CDMA + GSM
*sells both CDMA and GSM service -- the only carrier to do so that I'm aware of

Ahhh....strange one indeed.

agent....did you talk to roamer1? If so, can you ask him what carrier USA 190 is? The MNC was 311-190. This was in central Illinois.
