Thanks. Been absent from WA for awhile and missed the cell site talk. My project started with finding out where all the Verizon sites were in the area as I am going to break my almost continuous 17 year additction to AT&T/Cingular/AT&T/Cellular One and move over to VZW. The better coverage and reliability in this area is starting to slide toward Verizon. So I will get to learn the CDMA way of ID'ing cell sites versus the GSM way. I have got most the Clark County, WA sites ID'd by physical location, next I would like to start adding cell ID's and expanding over to Portland. |

Very nice N7ryy! For second there I thought you meant Vancouver B.C. I didn't know there was a Vancouver Washington. Later on this year when I head out to B.C. I can hopefully get some tower pics from out there. I know B.C. has tons of towers that haven't even made it on here yet.

Yup Vancouver WA BC is nice though, haven't made it up to Vancouver yet but took the ferry over to Naimamo years ago and up to Cambell River to go salmon fishing. There was a site from BC that originally got me into cell tower spotting and ID'ing. I had to google it and find it as I lost the bookmark a few computers ago, but he had alot of good info on cell tower locations up there. GeckoBeach: The Cellular and Mobile Phone Resource Site Check it out |

Oh yeah, I've been on there before. Some good stuff on there. Another page that I found just the other day is from a guy who took a bunch of tower pics up in your area. There are some from Washington, Alberta and B.C. Cell Sites Hopefully that link works. |

That's too funny, I was so going to post that one too. But yeah, it has been up a long time so I kind of figured you would've seen it already, ha ha. I'm about three and a half hours west from the T.O. area.

Those two sites were some of the original sites that got me started in hunting cell sites. Good stuff, doesn't look like they have been updated too much in the last few years though.

Yeah, it would be nice if they updated their sites more often. Although I shouldn't talk, I haven't updated my cell tower map in awhile either..ha ha. Well I'll admit that it was actually this site (Wireless Advisor) that got me started on hunting cell sites. When I actually started to notice them a lot more on the highways. |

If anyone would like, I can open up my maps, to select people who request it, so that they can add to it. Someone has added sites in CT already, in addition to my NYC/Buffalo/Michigan sites. ANyone interested?

I don't suppose there is any easy way to merge existing maps? Maybe using the layers feature with Google Earth?

I was starting a google map about verizon cell towers in Ocoee Fl . I have done Att which was somewhat easy but The verizon field test mode is rather confusing. I can go around a tower and pick up numbers in increments of 168 ,but is there somthing i am missing that can uniquely identify this tower. some of the same numbers pop up all over town ..

Images: 1 | You can save an entire google map by typing "&output=kml" at the end of your link in the adress bar in your web browser and it will prompt you to save the file. You can import this file in edit mode import button of google maps. you can also import and export klm files to and from google earth

There is already a .KMZ file for viewing registered towers in Google Earth. Here: http://ge.fccinfo.com/fccinfo.kmz It's really fun to just be able to zoom in to any registered cell tower nationwide. Also, layers under this .KMZ file include: AM Radio Stations FM Radio Stations ASR Towers (Includes Registered Cell Towers) TV Stations Broadcast Microwave All are updated frequently Here is a screenshot over my area, near Spartanburg, SC with the ASR Towers Layer Visible ![]() Also see this thread of mine for more: http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ge...tml#post528849 (A Layer in Google Earth For Cell Towers?)

There's definitely a lot of information there--I've been through the FCC data and a couple of map sources before, but not that one. They don't ever have carrier information, many towers aren't registered, some towers are registered but not built, and all the extra radio/tv stuff was unnecessary. I tried the file in Google Maps, but it looks like it chokes on it: http://ge.fccinfo.com/fccinfo.kmz - Google Maps One advantage of Google Maps is collaboration, and the ability to use it anywhere with web access. One advantage to Google Earth though, is that you can edit KMZ/KML files by dragging and dropping items in the list. |

Images: 16 | Acctually I think there is a way to merge all of the maps in Google Earth. Just export all the maps you want into .kml/.kmz format and turn all of them on when you open up Google Earth.

I'd add to it, although I only have a slight few from Port Huron Michigan area and the outskirts. All the others I have on my map are in Ontario, in and around my area.

Very nice map ADSisson. Keep up the good work. I've put it off for awhile but I've finally jumped back into my South Eastern Michigan cell tower map. Work is still in progress, but have made a good portion of it. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...64ce6e8fd3e3c3 Last edited by Der84; 07-22-2009 at 12:31 AM. |

Images: 328 | Thanks Gottachase, I'm pretty sure I have most of the sites right. ADSisson Maybe we'll be seeing you jumping into the cell hunting game and posting some tower pics you've taken? I'd be curious to see what's in your area. |

I finally used a Sprint Blackberry 8703 to log some sites. It worked really well and I've verified sites at almost every one I've checked. The GPS coords were all within meters of the site. GoogleMap of SignalLoc KML To note though, I was using an inactive Sprint phone that does not have GPS built in. It relied solely on the site reporting its coordinates and the phone did not have an internet connection to get data. Unfortunately, the phone was SPC locked and I couldn't edit the NAM. In the process of trying out UniCDMA and CDMA workshop (or maybe just me entering the SPC wrong too many times), I locked out the radio. When I try to turn on the wireless radio, it tells me to see my service provider. |

If anyone has a Symbian OS 9.x (S60 3rd and 5th) with an internal GPS, you could use this program I developed to map coverage, including Cell ID's: Cellumap Cellular Coverage Maps example of some points plotted (showing signal strength, but if you click on the dots they will also show Cell ID, LAC and other info) ![]() Here's a plot shoing the LAC borders between Bern and Zürich:
