Default 1000 lightning rod

1000 foot FM and TV broadcast tower that we have a cell site on. It gets hit and blows the telco everytime. Last time took out 3 miles worth of wire and a couple telco repeaters.

If it keeps getting hit, couldn't they just make it shorter?
Or would the trees interfear with it otheriwse?

its a tv station tower, we just rent space for our antennas. The towers not the problem, the tower is in a sandy area that has poor grounding.

Damn wussie telco repeaters... they seem to get cranky with 45 minutes of 55octet.

Holy geez... there isn't anything that can be done about that?

Couldn't you put a couple of lightning rods up top and have them run into a large capacity storage battery? Think about how long you could power the panels if you could only harness the 1.21 jigawatts of electricity a lightning bolt generates.

They have tried so many times its rediculous. The TV station has had grounding proffesionals and so has ATT. Only the telco gets zapped, nothing in our building ever gets touched. Some of us had actually talked about getting rid of the T-1 and go to micro.
