Default RFID of Sites

I head from a few local cell site installers that some sites are now being tagged with RFID transmitters, good for about 25-50 feet of distance, that indicate the site number AND the carriers in use (odd to identify this, but would be awesome). I know it'd be a <insert explicative here> to find out how read the tags, but has anyone even heard of this? They were purposely vague in who and where and how to protect their jobs, so I wish I knew more...

Wow. If this is true, it would be a great help in tower hunting. J. Kramer, you know anything about this?

The tech's vehicle will be equipped with a reader and it will allow them to gather such info during drive testing and troubleshooting before even walking into the shelter. It will be an encrypted signal, so fuhgetabout trying to 'snatch' it.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Oh well, I really I should have expected that.

I guess it's not such a bad thing... I like being a wireless 'detective' of sorts.

That seems odd, I can gather all the info I need w/o an RFID tag.

You would not be able to get this info without being 'connected' to the BTS. The RFID tags, as I understand it, will carry certain 'health' information from the RAN equipment.
