Wake Island was directly hit by super typhoon Ioke about a week ago. 180 mph winds and an 18' storm surge on an Island that is a maximum of 16' above sea level. I saw some pictures on the news from the island today, and it looked like the communications tower was still standing. I'll have to find some photos of that. |

Nope that was in the Marshall Islands (Bikini & Enwtok). Wake was the island we kicked the crap of the Japanese for a few weeks until it was overwhelmed. |

| Cellonetech, it was most definitely the Marshall Islands. The reason I know is my dad took part in the H-Bomb test in the late 40's there when he was in the Air Force. Wake had an airbase on it and now it's a meteorlogical station. |

I watch a ton of the History Channel and remember seeing a show on it. I looked it up on the net. The Airforce still keeps 100 something troops on it and use it as a airfield and for maintanence.
