Gang: I recently attended a trade show where American Towers was exhibiting. They were handing out a CDROM containing an Excel spreadsheet of their US sites. The spreadsheet lists, with full addresses and other identifying geocode information: 389 In-building sites 21,689 Wireless/Broadcast sites 9676 Rooftop sites ...by my count, that means we have 31,754 photo ops! Would you like to download the 15 MB spreadsheet in ZIP format (still 5MB!)? Point your broswer to http://www.CellularPCS.com/amtowers.zip When offered the option, SAVE TO DISK and unzip. You'll be amazed by how much useful information is there! It's my little gift back to all of you who have welcomed me into the fold here at WA. Jonathan Kramer www.CellularPCS.com PS: I just purchased a BVSystems drive test receiver for commercial work I'm doing. It's am amazing toy, expecially at $6,000! j PPS: How nice...this message pushed me into the Junior Member status! :-) j |

Wow, that list has just about every site around my house back on Long Island. I did find one mistake, however. It listed 1 site that does not exist. Strange.

Interesting--I'd like to see a .DIF file of the non-common sites. Having both databases, and generating it will send me to Excel use references. COtech

Tower site data is invariably filled with errors. We compile data from over 400 tower owners and geocode and QC only to find that the owners data typically has 1-5% errors in coordinates. Data changes monthly and is very dynamic. The FCC can't keep up, nor do they have comprehensive files (www.towermaps.com/fcc.htm) Good luck in your hunt. - David Ward |

Don't know how I missed this thread the first time around, it's interesting for those of you who can't make use of sites like the UK Site Finder (maintained by OFComm (Office of Communications) in the UK or the slightly less detailed mapping tool maintained by the German FCC agency, Bundesnetzagentur/RegTP.

Hey is there a way to tell which provider is currently using which tower? I found another tower map on another website that shows tower locations on google maps, but I have no idea which tele provider is using which tower... Thanks! |

Found it here: http://www.cellreception.com/index.html Let me know if you can figure out which tower is which. On another note, how do you like your Samsung a900? Got one for my wife but just starting to read about the short battery life. Does it generally last you a whole day? |
