How about an online cross-reference that lists phone numbers on site tags back to the carrier or site owner, sorted by phone number. The way I usually ID a site that has no external names is to call the toll-free number usually listed on the door or gate. I think that would help hunters.

i.e.,

800-724-8830 AAT Communications
800-788-7011 Crown Castle
800-832-6662 Cingular
888-563-9835 Nextel
888-859-1400 Sprint

What say ye? Would this be useful? How might it get done on the board?

No it is a good idea. I'm not sure how to do it other than just post the list.

Joe: How about I post a message that you make sticky at the top. Then as contribution are made I can edit my sticky message to updated it with new phone numbers and names. THat seems like the easy way to do it. -Jonathan

Here are some info for New Zealand:-

Telecom hardly ever puts their name OR phone number on the equipment shelter. But you can tell who they are from GPS antennas anyway!

Vodafone generally puts their name and phone number on the equipment shelter. Phone number is usually 0800 777 770. See here for an example of a more recent Vodafone sign that has the phone number but does not name themselves. Most older ones include the word Vodafone.

If the above is not present, usually you can find a power meter with either VODAFONE or BELLSOUTH. BellSouth sold their NZ network to Vodafone in the late 1990's. Either that or the equipment shelter will have a code starting with VF-xxxx-xx or BS-xxxx-xx.

Woosh Wireless, like Telecom, does not usually bother to report their name and phone number. However I recently found a site where Woosh had added a sticker with their logo and phone number. Not sure if this is being added to all sites or if it was put on this specific site only at the request of the city council.

Thats my 2 NZ cents contriubution to this thread. ;-)

Looking back now, I gotta say it is really wierd how many different numbers the carriers have. I understand the bigger Cellular companies were once different parts/different companies, but folks like Nextel and Sprint PCS? Wierd.
