I live in Connecticut. I have Sprint PCS service and a Blackberry 8830. I have a cabin in British Columbia, Canada, that I go to for weeks at a time. I am 32 miles from the nearest Telus transmitter, which is Sprint's roaming service provider in BC. My cabin is situated in a valley, with a lake and 500 foot mountain behind me and another 700 foot mountain, in the distance, in the way of the transmission towers. The towers are 32 miles away and at an altitude of about 900 feet. My last experience was that I could find spots on the lake where I could get reception and occasionally I could get three bars. Most of the time it was iffy, with dropped calls, distortion or one person hearing the other but not vice-versa. I have to use a seaplane to get in and out of there so I need to be able to reliably communicate with the plane service in case weather is bad and agreed to schedules cannot be met. I spent many hours on the phone today, talking to Sprint, Telus and others, like Wilson Electronics. I found this at Wilson's site: Cell Phone Antennas and Cell Phone Boosters at Wilson Electronics. I guess my Blackberry 8830 supports both 800 Mhz and 1,900 Mhz but I want to get the appropriate directional antenna for this application. Some of the directional antennas are for 800 Mhz and some for 1900 Mhz. I thought that I needed to know what frequency that Telus was using. Telus technical support says it's 1900 mhz. Sprint thought it was 900. Here is the 800-900 Mhz antenna that Wilson's site says is for Telus..... Cell Phone Antennas and Cell Phone Boosters at Wilson Electronics. Who am I to believe and is the linked amp. and interior antenna .... Cell Phone Antennas and Cell Phone Boosters at Wilson Electronics what I want? How high do I want the antenna and is there a trade-off point where I lose signal because of a long antenna cable? This is making my head spin. I also want to be able to connect to the internet, which my phone is supposed to be capable of. Can I use my phone to link to my laptop so I can work from the cabin, or is that another, completely separate issue? |

Do you mean check out your ebay items? I have been on the internet for many hours, read specs and talked to sales people and that is why I'm here. I need advice before I buy. I haven't found the answers elsewhere! |
