Device OS 4.5.X and the Verizon 8830

I took the plunge a couple of weeks ago, and downloaded a beta version of the 4.5 device OS for the Verizon 8830. I guess I got a little jealous since the 4.5 version OS has been available for the GSM phones for awhile but not officially realeased for the Verizon phones yet. I thought I would share some of the things I discovered about the new handheld OS.

The good - you can actually surf to youtube and play videos, better support for more sound file formats (I had a couple of sound files that would not play from my media card that now worked.) Documents to go included with the newer OS. HTML mail now supported without using third party software.

The Bad - some third party apps not supported (yet?). Additional themes from older OS that you may have downloaded, may not work. (yet?) I say yet to both of these as I have already noticed newer versions of apps are becomming available and themes that do work with new OS.

The Ugly - Battery life sucked!!! It was like I had my old Moto Q again. Was lucky if I got through a day and half before having to re-charge. I usually go 3-4 days. Also appears to have a memory leak, available memory would go down, even though nothing was running. And it would continue to go down.

So I guess thats why it is still Beta. I recently downgraded to an approved device OS and will await a non beta version before trying it again. But I have to say I liked what I saw.
