Default Opera Mini, 8320 & T-Mo?

I just signed up and have a Curve with the BB Internet plan. I've downloaded part of Opera Mini, but it doesn't make it all the way through the install. I then set the device up to use my WiFi but I still can't finish the install. The BB browser does work though.

I then came across this on Phone Scoop in the reviews for the 8320:

Now with the latter said. TMOBILE DOES NOT ALLOW THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE TO USE THE WIFI FUNCTIONALITY OF THE PHONE. This means if you want to Yahoo GO or Opera-mini, and the likes to work. You will have to pay for their data plan. The data plan has a monthly cost of $19.99 You can only use wifi for Blackberry's proprietary browser and UMA service.

I do have the data plan which is what I tried to install the browser with initially.

Any ideas for what I can do to get Opera Mini running? Also, since I have the BB Internet plan ($19.99), shouldn't I be able to use any 3rd party software to access the net?

Thanks

Have you tried uninstalling it first and starting over? Go to options, advanced, applications and scroll down the list and see if Opera Mini is listed, if so select delete and uninstall it first. Restart the blackberry by pulling the battery and reinserting it and try downloading again.

If you don't see it go to options, advanced applications, and hit the menu button and select modules scroll down the list and see if operette$2dhifi is listed (module installed by opera mini) if it is there delete it. Again restart the BB per above.

If you don't see either there I would suggest going to the opera mini web site and check out the FAQs and the opera mini forums.

Good luck

I thought Opera was not compatible with Blackberry devices because of how their internet access is proxied.

Nah!! I have used Opera mini on just about every BB I have had. Carriers were Cingular, T-mobile and Verizon.

It was the APN issue. I tried using a few different ones with no luck and then I remembered what you said about pulling the battery and that was it. wap.voicestream.com works for me.

Thanks a lot

It's usually only T-Mobile users that have problems with Opera. As mentioned above, APN settings are required.
