I just ordered a 4 gig microsdhc card for my Pearl 8100, will it work?
If not I just wasted too much money

It should. I was told a 81xx could hold up to 4GB microSD.

I have just purchased a 4gig micro-sd card and although it states on the sandisk website its should work, it has as of yet been unresponsive when installed in my 8100.

Any Suggestions.

which company is your 8100 with?

The 4gb card should work fine, unless the OS on your hand held is older. Basically hand held OS 4.2 can handle a 4gb card. Hand held OS 4.3 or higher can handle an 8gb card. So it sounds like you need to upgrade your 8100's OS. You can find more info here
