You shouldn't have to unlock it to install the Spanish pack. I tried going in to change the language on mine and it would let me change as long as I wanted to change it to english.

There is a 4.2 OS for it already by telefonica, Venzouela(actualy I have it on my 8700c). Go here and read up. You need to download Desktop Manager version 4.2 SP1, then download the OS by Clicking here then download this alx file. Run the Desk Top manager, then run the Downloaded OS. (make sure teat the 8700 is not connected to the PC yet). Once all done, you would need to replcase a couple of fies and also delete a file. To replace the files delete the blackberry.alx and the LBS.alx found on your PC in this location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.2.1.66_P2.3.0.59 replce these two with trhe ones you downloaded (included in teh zip files you do not need to use the third one). then once you do those you will also need to delete the vendor.alx file and that can be found in your pc under this location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader. Once those steps are done, then plug the 8700 and let the app loader run to install. The above are all simplified instructions and you can see the detailed instruction in this link | |

I thought this would be a good thing to post here as the new OS now gives us much more than before and that includes transfers of tones and pics via the PC instead of going via the web route. I have installed it and it is as good as what is in the 8800 and the Pearl so teh 8700 gets close and the only miss is the Micro SD card.
