Kinda new to the BB world and will soon be getting an 8100 Pearl via TMO. I have a few questions on what is the best setup for my situation. I manage a few at work, (no BES, BIS only) and we have a forwarding rule setup in Exchange to send a copy of all emails to to the users BB email address. They pretty much have to manage two copies both on the BB handset and on their Outlook. Not a problem for our users. They mainly want the immediate visibility. For me personally I own a website and domain and can manage my POP3 account through a cpanel interface at my web hosting provider. Will I want to configure this the same way and have all copies of my primary email be sent to the BB email address or do I want use the option within the BIS setup entitled: "Setup an existing work or personal e-mail account for use with your BlackBerry handheld." I guess what is the difference and how do most individuals with a BIS plan in this situation go about configuring? Thanks in advance. |

You raise an interesting point. If I understand it correctly, your question is: "Which of the following two methods should I use for accessing my POP3 account from my Blackberry? - via setting up a forwarding rule from your POP3 account to your Blackberry email address - via setting up an automatic POP3 polling from the Blackberry Internet Mail Service" Either would certainly work, as you point out. However, I would favour the former option, that is, the fowarding. My main reason for backing this horse is that your emails will be available to you more quickly than if you were using the POP3 polling: in general, your BIS checks your POP3/IMAP account every 15 minutes, which means that if someone sends an email to that account one minute after the last check then you'll have to wait 14 minutes to get it. Now, under many circumstances, this does not pose a significant problem, but I'm sure you have experience of ping-pong email, in which replies flow freely and quickly between two people, so much so that you could easily send 5 emails each in 10 minutes. Using the POP3 polling method would restrict this type of email communication. If you set up forwarding on your POP3 account, so that all messages automatically also go to your Blackberry email address, anything which you're sent will reach your Blackberry almost immediately (assuming there are no delays/errors in the forwarding process). Either method will still leave the messages in an "Unread" state on your POP3 server, ready for download onto your computer. These are the reasons for which I personally have my email account set up so that it automatically forwards all emails to my Blackberry account, which of course means that I receive them (usually) only a few seconds after they're sent. I hope this helps with your decision, and please don't hesitate to question my logic if you see fit. |

I use TMO's service to poll my e-mails and then forward them too me. Like the other post indicates sometimes there can be a little delay since the mail box is polled every 15 minutes, but I don't find that to be a big deal. You also realize that you will also be able to create another e-mail account through t-mobile. xxxxx@tmo.blackberry.net. I only use that one when I want to send things, links etc to my BB. BTW have fun with the 8100, just got mine a little over a week ago and got to say I am very impressed. Was not sure I was going to like the the true type instead of the full qwerty keyboard I had on my 8700 but once I got used to it, found it to be just as good. |

Thank you both very much for your replies. I guess I have to weigh the options. I am hedging towards the forwarding as I do not want the 15 minute delay. I did not know about the polling. paulmac...what happens to the existing xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net address that I currently have with my t-zones. Do you know if that goes away and is replaced by the xxxxx@tmo.blackberry.net address that you setup? I know t-zones will go away with the addition of the BIS data plan. |

Although I'm not a T-Mobile subscriber, particularly since I'm not even in the same continent, I would imagine that if your T-Zones subscription will not be running concurrently with the BIS then your tmomail.net will be no longer active, or at least not easily accessible. You will get a new tmo.blackberry.net email address, but it won't "replace" the former directly. It might be an effective replacement, but it won't be an automated process: you'll be registering for the Blackberry email address totally independently of the T-Zones issue. | |

I am new to this BB thing and was wondering how i can set up a hotmail accout for my email if i can at all. Also was wondering how you set up so that when you send an email it doesn't have at the bottom of every email that this was sent from my blackberry device and how to turn off that it automatically sends a message to my email everytime i send one.
