Blackberrys can be unlocked, some are not locked to begin with. I believe that 8700C by cingular is still unlocked. I recently updated the OS on mine using an OS put out by T-Mobile I believe, and had no problems. Cingular has not released an update in a while, rumors are however one is comming, and supposed to open up PTT on the 8700. Guess we will have to wait and see.

BTW Wireless Advisor needs a forum for blackberrys, no such forum exist I have asked for one, but to date nothing yet. If you are a blackberry user maybe post a response here, or find a way to ask the moderators to create one. Love WA, hate the fact that now as a blackberry user there is little here for me

You will need it unlocked then so you can use local provider sim cards. Search the internet, I simply put in unlock blackberry found this site, that claims they can do it for $24.99, there were many others.

Actually try calling T-Mobile and explaining the situation. Most carriers will provide you with an un-lock code for free in situations like this. There are certain criteria you need to meet first. Like be a customer in good standing for a period of time etc. But if you were to call them and tell them you were planning on traveling abroad, they will ususally provide you with the unlock code for free.

I purchased a Blackberry 8700 on Ebay. I unfortunately did not know it was a T-Mobile Blackberry. Cingular is my provider and I need a simple way to unlock my 8700. How is this done? Do I need to purchase an unlocking kit or is there a less expensive and easier way I can perform this procedure? Thank you in advance.

Your going to have to purchase an unlock kit from E-bay or do a search on the internet for unlock blackberry, you will find lots of places that do it and fees vary. Personally I have never used a kit off of e-bay, but have used some of the services on-line and they worked. I used one one time to unlock a Razr V3 I had purchased.

They do, but not always 100% what I mean by that is I recently paid $35.00 for a service to have my 8700C unlocked, they were unable to do it, and refunded me my money. The reason they could not is thier database did not show the IMEI that I submitted to them.

Most carriers will unlock a phone for FREE as long as you meet minimum requirements. Usually you have to have purchased the phone from them or authorized store, have a contract and payments up to date for at least 90 days and have a valid reason why you need the phone unlocked, like you are traveling abroad.

I recently called Cingular and let them know I would be traveling abroad and requested that they supply me with the unlock code for my 8700 they agreed to. While I have not received it yet (can take up to 5 days or more) I have received an e-mail saying that it has been approved, and that the code would be e-mailed directly to me.

I have a Blackberry 8700G from T Mobile that I want to unlock so that I can use it with Cingular Wireless.

How much will it cost me and MOST IMPORTANTLY: will ALL the features work with Cingular like email, text messages etc etc??

I agree with PaulMac on the BB forum, although I just use BBforum.com for that stuff.

My 8700c has non-Cingular OS, but it will not allow me to use any other networks. That is what is locked about it.

I am able to use it as an Edge modem on my laptop.....over the bluetooth connection.

I also have talked to JFB about opening up Specific forums for the Various PDA platforms such as RIM, WM5, ans Symbian. At the time I made my request he said he agrees it's a good idea and is diagraming on how to actually lay out the new forums on this board so hold tight.

I have a BB 8100 on UK t-mobile but I lost the handset. I've now got a new t-mobile SIM but they wont sell me a new handset. I can get hold of a BB8100 vodafone handset SIM free and unlock it. But I'm wondering if unlocking it will ensure _all_ the BB features will work with the t-mobile SIM, e.g. email, internet etc.

Can anyone tell me if unlocking the handset from vodafone is enough? Or will I need to re-register the IMEI with blackberry and/or t-mobile?

Thanks.

You should be fine as long as it is unlocked. Once you get it, go to the BIS web site and enter the IMEI and pin to replace the old one and you should be up and runing.

I'm a little new to the unlocking feature, but here's a simple question: I have a Verizon Wireless 8703e BB (yes, I know VZW really restricts their BB's.... we hate it too!) But the VZW 8703e does not have a SIM card.... how can I unlock it for occasional travel to Europe for my company? Or can I?

Not sure why you woud want to even try this if it is even possible. Most people unlock a phone, then if they travel to Europe pick up a sim card for a carrier where they are, and use that while they are abroad, and then switch back when they come home. Or they do it so they can use a model phone not availabe through there normal carrier, example I have a BB 8800 only available through Cingular, but since it is unlocked, I can use my T-Mobile sim (or any other sim) in it.

Make sure you read the user agreament before you pay.

I didn't now I have paid $7 for them to tell me that the bb8100 can not be unlocked unless T-Moble unlocks it.

If the response to the PIN exchange forum is any indication, a forum deidcated to BB's here wouldn't get much traffic. I think the BB subforum is all we'll get
