Unhappy Activate (Cricket)Audiovox 8900 with Verizon?

Does anyone know if an Audiovox 8900 purchased from Cricket can be re-programmed to work with Verizon? I recently moved out of Cricket's service area and I don't want to buy a new phone. A few months ago I called a Verizon store and they told me they could do it for me. Then I went there last week and a different guy told me it couldn't be done. I think he was too lazy, or just didn't know how.

Although your Cdm (short for cdma ) 8900 with Crickett is a cdma 1xrtt phone like those used with Vzw, it lacks the Vzw software necessary to allow you to use it with Vzw. Only phones loaded with the Vzw software are approved for service. If you can somehow have that software "flashed" into the phone, then it will work. I don't know if that is possible, but if it can be done then I would think that a direct (corporate owned) store could do it or Audiovox (800) 229-1235 could do it for you.
Good Luck!
