I just purchased a Audiovox CDM9500 thorugh Verizon This phone has a setting that allows a GPS locator to be activated either for all calls, or for 911 emergency calls only What I want to know is who can recieve these GPS coordinates? It does not seam to give the user a GPS location. What is the deal? Thanks Backroad boxer |

The GPS isn't live yet except for the emergency location when you dial 911, which is required by law. Who could track you in the future depends on who Verizon or any carrier decides to do business with. Some of the potential services are point to point directions based on where you are and where you want to go like the GPS systems in a car, instant severe weather reports at your current location, where are the nearest police stations, food, or toilets etc. from where I am at now. Usefull things that are actually valuable. Some of the potential "services" that might be considered SPAM by some would be you are 10 feet from a Coke machine and you only drink Pepsi, 1 block from a theater playing a movie you don't want to see, or 1 mile from a GAP and you don't like their clothes and as a result of being able to track your movements by GPS, you are constantly getting text messages or some other form of advertising they come up with, sent to your phone because a business that Verizon has contracted with can track where you are at. It can and probably will turn into the next version of telemarketing only exponentially more annoying.
