Default Dual NAMs on 8900

I just received a free Audiovox 8900 because I got a job with Cellular One.
However, I really LOVE my Midwest Wireless service.
Since the phone supports dual NAM I thought "no problem"...

Well, I got the SID/NIDs from Midwest Wireless and programmed them into the 8900 phone as NAM2. I can make and receive calls, but no messaging functions work (even 611 and "minutes of use" can't get through). I can send text messages to my other phone (I have pool a line) but cannot receive text messages nor reach any 'system' functions.

A sales rep at MWW told me this phone is part of a new promotion -- turns out, it is only in testing and not released yet by MWW. Ok, that might explain non-working system functions.

But... the phone also says I am always in roaming, and a customer service rep told me my signal is coming off a tower in Sioux Falls SD! (I live in Fairmont, MN).
How can this be, when I programmed in all the SID/NID pairs? I went into my Motorola 343 which I was previously using on this service and copied all the numbers out of that phone. There was no option to change the PRLs (only to view them), and they do not match...

So what gives?

MWW says I have to wait till they release the phone on their service and get it flashed, but then they say it will NOT work on Cellular One.

What good is NAM then if this is true?

Can I or can I NOT have two providers on one phone?

Or, after the software is updated, then shouldn't it work for both providers? I've heard alot of complaints about the software on this phone....

Any help GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks

as an addition to my previous thread about dual NAMs on 8900...

In the Motorola where I got all the info from, there was a setting called "email gateway" which was a 4 digit number.
In the Audiovox, there is no such setting -- should this 4 digit number be put in as a SID? That might explain why text messages weren't serviced...

Otherwise, where does this 4 digit number go to access system services?

thanks

Sioux Falls, SD is close enough to Fairmont that the you could conceivably receive signal from a tower labelled "Sioux Falls, SD." That's just the SID label used for billing, etc. In actuality the tower may be hundreds of miles from Sioux Falls but, since Sioux Falls is a large city in that area it may be under the blanket label of "Sioux Falls, SD."

As far as having two providers on one phone I should think it almost impossible... at least without unlocking the phone. It is hard to have a CDMA handset on two providers, even if it is unlocked because of PRLs and the programming of the phone.

how difficult would it be to program the phone to do *611 to one provider and 611 to the other
Is that possible.

I understand on certain SID you want CS for one provider and other SIDs the other provider.

*611 is a switch function, not an actual number so when you dial *611 you're taken to the customer service dept. for whatever system you're on at the time, whether it be your home system or a roaming system. If you're a Verizon customer roaming off a Sprint tower, you'll get Sprint Customer Service, the opposite is also true. You could, however program the direct 800-number into the handset for each provider. Most providers don't charge for calling their 800 number.

I have an LG vx7000 which also has dual NAM's. The main reason I purchased this phone is because I work out of the country (Dominican Republic) and was carrying around 2 seperate phones. I "thought" with the two NAM's I could have it activated both down there and here.

I already had NAM 1 activated by a company in the D.R. Went to Verizon today and they said it couldn't be done. They said that if they tried to activate that it would screw up the phone.

Is there any way I can accomplish what I originally set out to do and have two seperate company's with two seperate numbers or am I stuck???????

Default Re: Dual NAMs on 8900

I just read a piece in the vx7000 manual that states on page 60 : "SELECT NAM ALLOWS YOU TO SELECT THE PHONES NAM (NUMBER ASSIGNMENT MODULE) IF THE PHONE IS REGISTERED WITH MULTIPLE SERVICE PROVIDERS"

It goes on to explain the "Auto" setting as:
"ALLOWS THE PHONE TO AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH BETWEEN PROGRAMMED TELEPHONE NUMBERS CORRESPONDING TO THE SERVICE PROVIDERS AREA"

Further research shows that the phone can also switch between CDMA and PCS.

All of this would indicate contrary to what Verizon is saying to try to sell another phone, that this phone IS capable of TWO providers.

ANY RESPONSES OR HELP ON HOW I CAN GET THIS DONE???????
