I have entered my voice tags into the phone. when I flip it open it says activating VR, then it displays "say name", which I do, but then it doesn't dial. What am I doing wrong. How do you get the phone to auto dial when you say the name? The book is not very helpful in ths regard. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

I have attached voice tags to some of the #'s I call frequently. All I have to do is press and hold the "send" button until the prompts me to "say the name". It seems to recognize my command 99% of the time. Are you referring to once you flip the phone open it will automatically prompt to give a name? If this is the case, I was reading on another site that people were having problems with the "automatic" VR. It also sounded like Audiovox was aware of it. I may be wrong and did not read into it clearly. But do a search on "howardforums" for 8600.

I hope you lots of luck with ur 8600, and none of the problems I had!

I just want to start off by saying I have not heard that many people having the bad luck with this phone that I hda, so dont let what happened to me change your opinion of the 8600. I had a whole set of different problems, the (I went through 4 8600s) The first phone had a bad screen. The bottom and the of the screen were pretty much a big blur. The second phone and the 4th phone had reception issues, my first phone wouldnt call out even when i had full signal half the time. it would get stuck on the 'calling' screen. and the fourth would go from full service to no-service just for fun. That leaves the third phone, mainly the third phone had a 7 key which only worked half the time. Like i said just because of my bad experience i dont expect yours to be the same way. there are many other users of teh 8600 on this forum who love the phone and have yet to have a problem with it. Good luck with your phone and welcome to WA |

Hey Orioles, Good luck with your new phone. Hopefully you do not have any problems with it. How do you like it so far? I hear it is a pretty good phone. Hey, it only took me one time to reply correctly to you. Now help me understand something, your profile mentions you are from NY, but I take it your an Orioles fan? |

haha yeah, I used to live in Maryland so I am most definately an orioles fan. But my family moved to New York like 5 years ago.... plus I could never like the yankees anyways since all they do is spend as much money as they want to try and win...Well I wont even get started on that...I could complain for hours about that one...

hey, guys, new here and kind of a rookie, but would appreciate if you could take a shot at some questions. I just got my AV CDM 8600 from Verizon earlier this week. One comment...this phone is pretty darn wacky. That search feature is just bizarre. Besides the fact of no easy way to access the directory, how about these: 1. Is it possible to get that "Verizon Wireless" off of the "flip" part on the cover? I use my phone as my watch/clock as well and hate having it say "Verizon Wireless" for eight seconds at a time. "Verizon" is on there at least two other times, which isn't very efficeint for a machine that's only three inches long and an inch and a half wide (and is supposed to display as much information as possible). 2. When the phone rings, is it possible to make it ring and vibrate (at the SAME TIME)? Can't believe you can only get one or the other. Maybe I need to download some new rings. 3. Is there an internal clock that's not dependent on the signal? See 1. above about my concern...if I'm out of reach of a signal, I don't know the time. Any recommendations? Thanks in advace for your help. Any answers would be quite helpful. |

Hello Fishman, Welcome to the forum. Regarding your concern on the outside "flashing banner", there is no fix from Verizon at this time. However, if you go to www.howardforums.com and go into the Audiovox forum, you will see a thread called "I killed the Verizon banner on my 8900". I will for warn you though, that you will have to hook the phone up to the computer and "mess" with the software. Other than that we'll just have to live with it. I have never put the phone on ringer and vibrate, I usually put it on one or the other. If you hold down the "*" key for a few seconds, it will go into vibrate mode. The phone book...what a joke !!!! That has to be the worst search feature I have ever seen. The way I get around this is by attaching voice tags to my top "most dialed" people. Otherwise you have to scroll through the list. There are someother shortcuts, but for me that is waht works best. I have always had signal, so internal clock...I don't know. I guess I am used to wearing a watch and usually just look at that. Especially in the summer when you do not want to risk the phone around pools, beaches, etc. |

Unfortunately there is no internal clock. For some reason I have found most phone manufacturers decide not to put one in. I am not sure exactly why, but thats just the way it goes. As for the vibrate and ring, I am pretty sure it just vibrates first and then rings (im relying on my memory here) there is not a way to make it do them both at the same time.

O's and Lets, thanks for the comments. Wow, that Verizon/blinking fix looks like a pain. Overall, this phone is just bizarre. Is this AV's first generation of phones? I'm guessing, just because the software is so bizarre. There's soooo many things that are counter-intuitive or just take so long to do such a simple task. I can't say I'd recommend this phone to anyone. Compared to my old Nokia (8390 from AT&T Signal-less, er, I mean Wireless), the software is just awful...and I don't think it's because it's a new "operating system" for me. It just doesn't seem like they took the time to think things through. Thanks again, I'll be back with more questions soon. M-A-R-Y-L-A-N-D, Maryland will win!! (Go Terps!) |

The software is horrible, but as far as reception, holding on to calls, clarity,size...I am very pleased. Yes the U.I. stinks, but the important things like reception, etc it is the "best" phone I have had !!!
