The screen on this thing is amazing. It's worth a trip to a Sprint store (even for non-Sprint customers) just to check it out.

tony, i highly recommend the vm4500. Its top of the line at sprint right now. It as amazing reception as with any sanyo model phones. I absolutely love this phone. So many things to play with on the phone that it can become really distracting (in a good way of course). It looks great and feels like a very solid design too. The ready link is expensive, but fun to play with. Great sound and display. I am going to test out the vm 4050 which is coming to my store next week. Everyone is raving about the screen so I cant wait to see it. By reputation alone I doubt it will perform on the same level as the sanyo vm 4500, but I might get it anyway.

My only real complaints about the 4500 is the inability to set T9 as default text entry and the less than stellar sub-LCD (hard to read when in sleep mode). Pretty fantastic phone all around though.

What software does the Toshiba VM4050 use? The same as other Audiovox phones or a different type for Toshibas?

I'm not sure what you mean by software...but if you mean how is the user interface and menu system...it is fantastic. Very customizeable and by far the easiest Audiovox (in my experience) to navigate through the menu systems.

So the phonebooks aren't messed up like other Audiovox's and it doesn't have the other Audiovox software (UI) problems? Because I have a temp. Audiovox now and I hate it plus I've had an Audiovox before and hated it.

And just one more question... how does it feel to hold it? I heard it feels cheap and plasticy and the battery case never stays on all the way.

Thanks! ~Gideon

I didn't have a problem with the battery cover...if it is a little lose just fold a post it note in half and place it between the battery and the door. As for the feel of the phone...it was very slick...felt as though it might be very easy to drop.

I don't know what you mean about messed up phonebooks, so I can't really answer, sorry.

I'm entertaining thoughts of getting this phone now that it's available at Costco for a lot less than the retail price Sprint charges. I'll probably make my decision in the next week or two.

Don't take it too long Larry, i hear alot of people have been waiting for that phone to come to Costco, might be sold out if you wait too long, but then you got the hook up there, so it might be different for you....lol

That's ok. If they run out I'll just wait a few days for more. I'm in no hurry. I'm still thinking about it though.

$249 plus you get some accessories with it. Problem is many Costco's still don't have them yet and there are some provisioning problems with the shipments that Costco received.

You can't get that rebate if you're an exsisting customer. It's only if you're starting or adding a new line of service or had your exsisting phone for at least 18 months. But yes Costco does offer a rebate similar.

But regardless I've decided against this phone after coming very close to buying one last night. Here's why:

Earpiece volume is too low
external display sucks.
signal meter is small and hard to see.
size and shape are not as good as I expected.
opening and closing of the hinge makes a noise and doesn't seem good quality.
Button design is not very good looking. the buttons and up/down keys seem small and hard to push when compared to Samsungs.
Some have reported Vision difficulties.

Bottom line is I think it's a good phone with a lot of great features but is a bit overrated and overpriced. $249 is a good price to pay but anything more and it's too much. The Sanyo VM4500 seems a lot better overall. I'll probably wait for the upcoming Samsung A680 instead.

Does Costco carry the Sanyo? If yes, what are they charging? Also, is Sprint now including 7pm nights on 2 year contract or is it stiil add'l $5 fee

Amazon has the Sanyo for $149 after rebates
