hello all, i was browsing through the forum and i found some help on other areas of my cell phone, but i am looking to get new ringtones.... i'm sorry that i'm a newb at this, but i thought i could look for help here, u all seem very informative and very friendly and helpful, lol..... but i was wondering if there was any way to get more ringtones on my cell phone without having to use the get it now feature? i've been wanting to download some from bands, but the sites i goto either don't offer the service to american users or they don't offer them to verizon customers, can anyone help me? thanks in advance

Well, there's a couple of things you could do, however none are completely free. First, you could purchase the cable needed for usb transfer that will fit your phone. Try Radio shack. Second, if you had a camera phone you could use the pixplace method, however you have the 8600 so you will need software such as Polyphonic Wizard or Music Masterworks (use a search engine like google to find) to transfer the music from mp3 or cd to midi form. This software will also help you to edit the size of file, because you will not need the entire song for a ringer. Your phone will switch to voicemail after a few rings. There is some free software out there, but Polyphonic wizard is by far the easiest to use that I have found, and sets the sound up, after completion, to be e-mailed to your phone for an easy transfer. This software is not freeware and will cost you a 1 time fee for unlimited use. Feel free to ask any q's you may have. |

thanks so much for helping me thus far.... so where is this program at and how much does the program usually run and how much does the cord usually run? you said that radioshack should carry these? do you know if they have a certain name? when u say that the program e-mails the new ringtone to my phone, does that mean i have to have that internet connection option enabled on my service? cuz i don't have it currently(wanted to keep monthly costs down, lol) and sorry it's off topic, but the messaging thing, i know i can send messages to someone on msn and vice versa, but how does that work? does anyone know if it uses up minutes(if so, how many per message) or does it add an extra fee ontop of my monthly fee per message? thanks |

Hi 2x. I am sorry for the unclear reply. I was writing at 1:30 in the morning which is waaay past my bedtime and I think I was a little delerious. Here is a link for a free trial version of the software I mentioned earlier. It is very easy to use. try it and see if it works for you. http://www.polyphonicwizard.com/ as for the cable, I do not know the correct # because I do not use this way for downloading. I have read on other posts that if you take your phone in to a Radio Shack, they can match it up. By downloading in this fashion you also must have some additional software for the actual dowload to work. Look around in this forum or at www.howardforums.com. Howard has quite a bit of info about this process. (I still like the wizard way best). I have read that the price of the cables can vary from a total of $15-$30. As for messaging. I assume you mean text messaging. If this is correct, your plan may, or may not have "free" text messages. If you do not, I think it is 10 cents a message. You can call customer care to verify your account info and cost. Hope this was more clear than last night. |

thanks a lot steeler fan.... i can't remember what my plan is as far as text messaging, so i guess i'll just have to wait and see, lol as for the method of getting my own ringtones, thank you so much, thus far... i just now gotta fork out $20 to buy the program to actually use it and i'll be set(i hope) lol i downloaded the trial version from another website and after i chose my midi, it closes the program down... i guess that's because it isn't bought? i'll try downloading from that website, maybe it will let me go further? well thanks a lot so far, i may have more questions in the future, lol |

the program should not close. When trying it out I uploaded my midi file, then cut off the beg. and end parts that I did not need. It let me listen to the sound and send to my phone, however because it was a trial version it only sent 3 seconds worth of sound. But at least I could make sure it would work before I purchased it.
