My wife wanted to exchange her new VX4400B for a phone with a slimmer design. She had pretty much settled on the Audiovox 8900 ... until we went to the local Verizon store. They told us it was recalled this morning and they couldn't sell any. They didn't say why, and when asked said they weren't told yet (?). So ... does anyone know what the recall is all about, why it may have been recalled?

if you read the 8900 thread you will read upon some S/W problems the 8900 has had since it's released. too bad 'cause at one point i was going to give it a try, strange but some users claim that there's no problems with this phone, but with this recall that doesn't seem to be true, at least here in California. Maybe Shimo (CALI) or Dru (NY) can give more feedback.

My wild NYE 2004 resulted in some battle wounds on my lovely 8900. Im going to see if there's anyway to get it exchanged with another 8900. I bought my phone at the Northridge Mall in California. If you are close to them, call there store, I'm sure they are selling it. As far as problems go. I finally found one place my phone wasn't getting reception.... The ballroom in the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles. It was below ground level. |

here's my reply from the LG forum: i was asking about the 8900 today and was told that it was recalled, if you want to exchange for the same they usually keep some in stock for replacements, so just go in there and since the 8900 has beeng having the S/W issues just tell them that your phone is freezing up and they'll swapped it for a different one and since your in your 14 day trial period they have to give you a new one, not refurbished. ps, i don't like the Verizon store in the Northridge Mall.

any particular reasons why you don't like Northridge Mall Verizon? I know they are not technically inclined professionals. They give me blank stares at me when I mention the word "software version" I do, however, like the Pasadena Verizon store. They were nice and replaced my bad phone with a refurb. Also they upgraded my vx4400 to version 08 |

Not near Northridge here. The store that we tried to get it at is the Brea store, not in the Brea Mall, but about a mile east of it. They told us they just got the call this morning that the phone was recalled, and that they could not sell any more. As it ended up, my wife swapped for the LG VX3100, an older monochrome model. They gave her a choice of either the 3100 or the 4400B for FREE due to my buying the 6000 on the 30th of Dec. She had gotten the 4400 the same day, but the free offer wasn't in effect then. It was nice of them to extend the offer to us after the fact. She didn't like the 4400 as it was too fat to feel comfortable to her when worn at her waist. The 3100, though very basic, is much thinner, and what she liked. I'm more the techie and techno-phobe, needing the latest and greatest, or close to at least. So she wasn't too disappointed that the 8900 was no longer available, but both of us curious as to why ... especially when we hadn't heard anything prior to the store telling us.

I was at Verizon on 12-30 and they pulled the phone right out in front of me. Sales staff talked about a bulletin that indicated they had serial number issues...who knows, I bought the 8600 and seems to be working fine. I have had 6 phones in 3 years, I constantly find the no phone can have it all!
