Default Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

The Speaker on the outside ie the ringer speaker is best used for the speakerphone. Also, if you talk woith it in speaker mode, talk into the speaker as well. I am 99% sure that there is a mike in the speaker. I tryed to kill the outgoing sound by holding my finger down on the mic on the inside and people could still hear me just fine so....
Anyone able to confirm if in fact the mike is on the outer speaker side?

Default Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

YOU GUYS CAN PRAISE THE 8900 BUT THIS IS STILL A PHONE FROM THE AUDIOVOX 8000 SERIES FAMILY. THE DISPLAY SCREEN ON THE 8900 IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE DISPLAY SCEREEN ON THE LG VX6000 AND THE RECEPTION ON THIS PHONE IS HORRIBLE COMPARED TO OTHER PHONES. IF YOU CARRY BOTH THE AUDIOVOX 8900 AND A PHONE LIKE A A310 OR EVEN THE A530 GOLD YOU CAN PUT THE TWO NEXT TO EACH OTHER AND YOU WILL SEE BETTER SIGNAL NOT ON THE VOX BUT ON OTHER PHONES. I WAS IN A BAR THE OTHER NIGHT AND A GIRL THAT HAD THE 8900 WAS GETTING ONE BAR AND MY KYOCERA KX414 AND MY FREINDS V60 WERE BOTH GETTING 4 BARS. SO MAYBE GOOD FEATURES BUT I WOULD SELL THE 6000 OVER THE 8900 ANY DAY.

I AM NOT SCREAMING JUST FORGOT TO TAKE MY CAPS LOCK OFF.

The bars on the 8900 are conservative to say the least (flat out lying I say). I have clear reception when I have no bars on my 8900 and that's talking in a dead spot (my house) that has killed all other phones. Have you tried using both phones in weak coverage for a comparison? This phone has the best reception I've seen by far. It's also got the cleanest handover to analog that I've noticed in any phone I've had.

agreed, you cannot measure RF by the phone's bars alone, that does not give give a true RF reading, you need to put the phone in test mode and get a reading from there.
my 9500 will show 0 bars and will hold a call without dropping it vs my 6k, where it has dropped calls showing 2 bars on the display.

Well, irregardless from what series the 8900 is related to, I know that I can make and receive calls in areas where the signal meter sometimes shows no bars. Where I work has always been an iffy location, so I have been pretty pleased to see that the 8900 will let me make/receive calls consistantly, even switching to analog at times. My old tri-mode phone would sometimes just refuse to put calls through, and at the same work location. Since I spend a lot of time there, that's important to me.

WRONG

put it in test mode, get the REAL reception numbers, and you find out this phone out performs all but the best VZW phones ever. I can make and recive calls with NO BARS just fine and not have to worry about dropping the call. Can you?

Default UPDATE: Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

It's funny because my friend bought a VX6000 and he called it a P.O.S.

He has a thing against korean made products which is funny.... he traded that in for a 8900...... Made by Hyundai.

But he said he likes the 8900 more than the 6000 but didn't give any specific reasons.

What's even funnier is that the 8900 has Korean made hardware in it.

Default UPDATE: Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

Racer X (i mean Tony E),
finals went well. Glad the're over. C'mon june! I can finally relax a bit and get back to a normal life. Yesterday I traveled to the mountains and I noticed my 8900 switched to analog. i tried to call a friend who was there in the same resort, but I never heard the phone dialing, nor anything else. He has Ver. also. I know the bars don't really determine what reception you are getting, however I did have 3 bars. Could this be my phone or my friends? I forgot to say hey to shimo. Hey Shimo.

Racer X (i mean Tony E),.........lol

Also considering how close you are to a tower, makes you wonder if analog really makes a difference doesn't it? i had instances where my phone switches to analog and i still have a hard time getting the call to connect, and when it does connect, you get that ol' analog static.

AH HA! I recognize some of you guys from the slider envy forum.

I just bought the 8900. I can't seem to get past the little quirks like the speakerphone volume,
startup/shutdown music, VZW's blinking logo, no vibrate then ring option and a few others.

I think I'll return it and wait for the Slider. But if VZW and Audiovox can fix these problems I
will reconsider buying this phone.

But I want you all to know I enjoyed reading your forum.

LoL........yeah seen you hanging out in the Kyocera forum, by the time that Slider is out i don't think i'll be wanting it anymore, i was looking at it at Best Buy yesterday and i don't know about the way the keys are set up on that one, see the upper keys, not enough room for one to press them comfortably.

Default UPDATE: Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

3 days with the 8900. This phone is winning me over. But! While on hold with the audiovox tech support I heard the annoncement of the 9900. It sounds like the same phone but it takes video too! The tech told me the speakerphone volume problem can not be fixed by software updates. He also said that VZW forces them to program the phones a certain way. And an update is in the works to address the blinking VZW on the outer screen.

I then spent 15 minutes on the phone with VZW airing my dislike of their policies. I urge all VZW cutomers to do the same.

I'm giving this phone the full trial period.

Call VZW! Call VZW! Call VZW! Call VZW!

Hey Steelerfan! Glad to here your finals went well! Analog is so unpredictable and so unreliable, it's not your phone that was having problems. I've made a few calls in analog and it was horrible. Very staticy and lots of distortion. ALso you guys were in the same resort, but unfortunately one spot you might have perfect reception and you move into another room and you'll have poor reception.

Default UPDATE: Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

i kinda liked this forum better before there were lesbianic photos (yes, i'm talking to you steelerfan) and other wife/girlfriend-"appeasement" remarks by other members. unless of course, i misread somewhere that this is a forum only for men. sorry i barged in on the sausage fest. carry on, and i apologize for not being more observant that self-respecting women shouldn't be in here. thanks for the helpful information about Audiovox 8900's earlier, before it started getting disgusting. i do have a sense of humor, but only when stuff is actually funny. i advise you to please remember your audience!

Default UPDATE: Audiovox 8900 review (long, wait make that very long)

Connifer,
I opologize. I never meant to offend anyone. I did not think of the people who would be viewing that icon. It was to be removed on Monday, however I will change it immediately. As for the "wife/girlfriend appeasement" I, nor my wife thought there was anything wrong with that comment. "Yes dear" was not meant, or intended to be a derogatory comment in any way, shape or form. I do not want this forum to become a negative place, nor do I want anything to become personal. This is not a "sausage fest". I will do my best to think of the audience before any additional posts.
