Default Audiovox 9900

Jude -- If speakerphone is a top priority then I would definately say go for the V60s. This is the one phone (with Verizon) that has proven it has a great speakerphone. the speaker on the 8600 is not great, i can only use it in a very quiet environement and even then i feel like i am screaming at the phone and the other person needs to talk loudly back.

"Is it close to our 9500 or it is a Hundai/Audiovox mess too?"

This has the Hyundai/Toshiba mess. Audiovox does not make their own phones, these are 2 of the main companies that make them for Audiovox to then brand. People say Hyundai is much worse than Toshiba, I am not COMPLETELY sure I agree with them. I havent had many problems with my 8600.

If your friend really wants the 9500 and is set on it you could also look at ebay. There will be some 9500's there for sale that your friend could buy.

"Wait for the 9900 (is this going to have camera?)"

The 9900 will have a camera AND video clip capabilities. It will also have dual color screens and speakerphone. While this all sounds very nice, it sill could be quite a while untill we see this phone. So if your friend is looking for a phone soon, this probably will not be out. Right now there is the V60s and the audiovox 8900 should make its comeback quite soon as well. the 8900 has a camera and from what i hear great reception. (but its speakerphone is not that great)

So to answer your question as to what phone you should get: if you dont care about having a color phone probably go with the V60s, otherwise I would say wait a few more days and the 8900 will be back out. If you have anymore questions just let me know.

You seem to know your stuff.
I posted a similar question to this one elsewhere but will ask here.

We have the Audiovox 9500 and have been so happy with it. I know people complain about the speakerphone but it really isn't that bad. In fact my friend wants our phone just because he was so pleased with the speakerphone and the reception.

Now I have a friend who like our phone so much he wanted to same one. We use Verizon.
I don't care about a camera and in fact prefer not to have one.
My friend wants the 9500 but as you know verizon is only offering the 8600.

What do you think he should do?
Wait for the 9900 (is this going to have camera?)
What do you know of the 8600? Is it close to our 9500 or it is a Hundai/Audiovox mess too?
If push comes to shove..what verizon phone would come in second to the 9500 of ours?

Thanks so much
thanks Jude, i actually replied to your thread in the Motorola forum.
i also use the Audi 9500 by the way, sweet phone, love the reception on it, i usually take with me when travelling, well orioles pretty much summed it up, you can wait for the 9900, i waiting for it myself, but if your friend really likes the 9500, you can still find them on E-Bay, and if you check the Marketplace forum there is one for sale there. if you're interested you can send a private message, don't forget to turn your PM feature on.

Looks like the 9900 is listed on Phonescoop for VZW. They're listing the release as the first quarter of '04. Given VZW's past record of getting phones out on time -- hopefully without the same, er, rigorous testing that gave us the T720 -- we'll probably see it sometime next year (though I hope I'm wrong).

I predict the hype for this phone will surpass the hype that surrounded the Samsung A530, but at least with this phone, it'd be worth it, IMO.

Hua, indeed. (As an aside, when we Army-types sounded off with hua at one of schools I went to, one of our instructors was an Air Force sargeant who told us, with a wry grin, that the Air Force didn't say hua -- they said, "Have a nice Air Force day.")

Anyway, back to the subject: Is this thing supposed to have voice dialing? It's not listed on the PS entry for the phone.

I had one of the sh!tty 9500's that was made by Toshiba. It was one of the worst phones I've ever owned. I'll never own anything Toshiba makes again.

yeah, i was reading on phonescoop and doesn't say anything about voice dialing.
i hear that the accessories ie; car chargers etc. for the 9500 will work with this one.

It will probably be released in Canada before its released in the U.S. At least that was the case with the CDM 8900.
