After a few days with it, I returned the 8600 and got the 8900. (With the rebate, it acutally cost me $10 LESS than the 8600.) The 8900 is bigger - but not enough to matter to me. The display is also bigger and easier to read, which is the main reason I traded it. The speakerphone works well for me in the car, but I do notice the fact that the sound actually comes out of the top of the faceplate, which is actually facing away from you when the phone is open. This makes the speaker harder to hear when using as a speaker phone, but easier to hear the rings when it is closed (the 8600 only plays to the inside of the face plate - if that makes sense). The blinking "verizon wireless" in the sub-lcd display is there just like the 8600. I placed my wife's 8600 next to my new 8900, and they blink for the exact same amount of time. No help with this here. (Although the tech at the store did tell me they have received MULTIPLE complaints about this on both the 8600 and now the 8900. Let's hope that motivates them to change it!) I'll be glad to answer any specific questions anyone has, especially about the differences between the 8600 and the 8900. |

Damn...thought this phone was going to be perfect but I have found a software problem on both mine and my fathers phone. When ever I go to change the name of somthing, mostly ringtones, the phone screen goes all white and says, "Saving User Data...(7)" and then it shuts off then on. It also happens sometimes when I try to change the ringtone...really annoying since I do this often. On my dads phone when he goes to change a contact name the phone freezes on the start-up screen and he has to take the battery out. This is a little dissapointing. Has any one else had these problems? If these conditions dont improve over this week, we are both going to exchange our phones for VX6000's since they've been around a little longer and has most of the bugs out. Although im going to miss analog, speakerphone, great ringtones...I think I'll survive.

ok....so I call verizon tech...to aska few questions....like is there an easier way to get to contacts when you are sending a pic msg(rather than having to hit edit, menu, find, them contact list..uh,..the answert is no).. so then I ask HIM how about my greeting banner which doesn't work... so he tells me HIS phone does alternate between "verizon wireless" ands whatever he types in under greeting message... so he asks me to read the software version in mine...of course, its not the same as his.....(BTW,his ANSWER OPTIONS also lets him choose between send key and any key..mine doesn't)... heres my software version...Check it against yours...Just so you know,my phone has no probs sending pics...... Just came across the 8900 looking for a trimode camera phone for VZW. I don't know Audiovox phones at all. What's their rep? There seems to be pretty polar opinions of this phone, but Dru seems impressed with it's RF (my main concern). I just moved to a suburb of Detroit, MI, and my Samsung A400 on sprint can barely keep a signal. While I'm most concerened with the RF, I know I'd regret passing up a camera phone, so i'm definitly interested in this phone.. . Also, I've heard the vx6000 has a bigger screen, then the 8900.. which is bigger? Thanks for the input. |

Not sure why this phone is getting such bad reviews by some users. I picked up my 8900 on Friday and I can honestly say that it is a great phone. In my opinion, everything about this phone is excellent. I like the display, reception, interface, appearance, battery life, and sound quality on this phone. The camera and speaker phone work very well too, granted, it may not be the best camera and speaker phone out there, but it works well for me. If you are looking for a phone that has almost everything, then the 8900 is a great choice. My sister has the LG6000, my brother has the T720, and my sisters boyfriend has the LG4400 and when I showed then my new phone, they were all very impressed with it. It seems like the public is stuck on the fact that this phone has the Audiovox name on it. I’ll be the first one to say no to buy a Audiovox radio or any other Audiovox electronic, but when is comes to their new cell phones, I have no complaints. I have not encountered any of the bugs mentioned previously on this thread, so far my phone has preformed like a champ. Like a said before, I happen to like this phone very much and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great phone with lots to offer. My only gripe is that the phone does not come with more ringtones or wallpapers choices. I think it should also include at least one preinstalled game, screensaver, and animation. But, I know, that is Verizon’s way to get you to use Get It Now and make purchases thru their services. |

Ok so called tech support about my dads phone. They said that the Picture Messaging is a software problems and it will not work on ported number lines (we both are former AT&T customers) and that Audiovox has already noted the issue and are working to solve the problem. Me and my dad are going to go and exchange our phones I think and we are going to go get the LG VX6000. Thats a nice phone but it dosent get as good reception as my 8900. Darn...why cant people make a none buggy phone. I should have waited a little while du to the fact that this is a new phone and has issues that need to be worked out. Maybe in July when my mom ports over ill tell her to get this phone and I'll switch with her.

now it's understandable that this phone will have bugs, but at least the vx6000 did not have all this issues when it first came out like this one is having.

Well, babyboy, I was all set to get the 8900, but when I went to the sprint store by my work in Troy, MI they said they received an e-mail from VZW to pull all the 8900's from the shelf including the display.. sounds like a recall.. anyone hear about this? My girlfriend has the vx6000 and I like it alot and would by it in a second, except that it's a dual band digital only.. gotta have analog still.. So I guess it's back to the drawing board until they figure out what's up with the 8900... |

yep..I called my verizon store..they said it was pulled because you couldn't always send pictures.. But I've noticed now that my speakerphone, when I engage it on a call,.always starts at the lowest level, untill I hit the side "UP VOLUME" button.......the problem is that the volume(speakerphone) settings is on 5(the highest)......' also,my auto redial doesn't work.... this phone is going back.... I for one am very dissapointed... |

Someone already beat me to the punch. In my area, VZW issued a directive to all channels to temporarily halt sales of the 8900 due to software glitches. It has only been out 4 days. Many issues have been identified, and sales have been halted within the first week. Do you really want this phone 2 years? This is not a Toshiba-Audiovox phone. The quality will be inferior. We should all learn from past experience! |
