Hi guys. I just got an 8600. The manual SUCKS. 1) How do you use voice dialing? I set up all the training, assigned phrases to stored numbers, but I don't know how to activate it to make a call. 2) How do you disable that ridiculous song it plays when you power up and power off? 3) My old Motorola v60 could store an intelligent pause that would wait for an answer before sending the next string of numbers. The8600 seems to have either a hard pause where you have to hit the OK button to send the next part of the string or a timed pause which I can't find any info on. Timed by what? 4) I don't get the "answering machine" function. Can this phone store incoming messages without the need to dial up voicemail? Thanks for any help. |

Well I will do my best in answering the questions: 1) to activate the voice dialing menu you can do one of two things. First hold down the send button until it activates the voice dialing menu, or in the voice services menu you can set it to activate voice dialing every time you open your flip ( to do this go to: menu 9 - 6 - 5 and select "active flip") 2) It doesnt seem to be possible. Not even when the phone is in silent mode will it stop playing the song. That seems to be the MAJOR flaw in the phone; they dont give you any options. like this rediculous song, or not being able to change how it alerts you of a message. 3) it appears that timed pause waits for 1 ring, and then puts in the next number. (this actually seems to be working fine for me to check my voicemail which is VERY nice, and i havent had any phone on Verizon that would allow me to do this) 4) The answering machine function (i believe, I have never actually tested it out) can be used as 1) a call screening, so a person calls, they start to leave a message (which you have the option of hearing as they leave it) and you can then decided to answer the phone or not. or 2) as an actual answering machine. I am not sure how well it performs this feature (i know the samsung a-310 has this feature and i heard a lot of people complaining about it) so I would say its probably better just to leave ur phone going to voicemail. |

Yes there is a way to turn off the starter chime on the CDM8600: Go to setting>Sounds> Alert > Melody > Off Also if you want to remove starter chime temporarily while phone is on hold # button to get Etiquette. You can turn phone off and when you turn it on again next time it will be silent. Press # to get sounds again. Riche |

interesting. they added it in the new software version. mine only has options 1-5 under the alert menu. There is no 6th option. I wonder if there are other different things with your phone. Does it go back and forth from that annoying "Verizon Wireless" and the time/caller ID still?

To change the banner flashing and just show the time on the outside LCD do the following: 1. Press the upper left soft key (ie the one with the "..." on it). 2. Press 6, 2, 2, 1 3. Press OK key, to edit Banner 4. Type in a banner (puts it on the inside LCD screen), up to 32 characters. 5. Press the OK key to save. I did this 20 min ago and the time is there always. I even turned it off and back on and just the time appears, no VZW banner. I also have .235 software, where can we get the new version? Download via phone? Cheers, MnM |

Interesting...Doing what you say you did does not stop the Verizon Wireless from attacking my outer LCD screen. I think I am going to go to Verizon at somepoint in the next little while and ask them about it and the different software versions.

I am totally stumped on the whole answering machine thing too, I just got the phone today but have been playing with it all day and I can't seem to figure out how the hell that thing works.

Hey, Does anyone know how to put pictures of friends and family on your phone. Also is it possible to change the background and put a picture you like. Also is it possible to get new animations that are different than the dessert, baby and candle taht are currently on the phone. Thanks |
