Default 8600 on verizon site!!

Not up here in the New England Market. I did call my VZW store and the lady said they had them in stock and are just waiting for the launch. I asked when that would be and she said between the 6-10th of Oct. She then quoted me a price of $199 for FULL RETAIL. and $149 for a new contract.

Default 8600 on verizon site!!

Well of course I have a ton of questions about the phone (as i think i am going to run out and buy it sometime this week.) But we will start off with just a few questions.

(1) Inner screen - How sharp is the color? brightness? Good backlighting? Performance in sunlight and in the dark?

(2) Have you found the battery life to be fairly good? i know you dont have any scientific numbers for this but about how long does the battery last without needing it to be charged. (I realie you just got the phone so you might not be able to answer this one now, but when you get a better idea of the battery life, maybe post it then)

(3) I have heard some people say that the phone feels sort of flimsy. have you found this to be true? Does it feel like a toy that is going to break?

(4) Have you had a chance to test out the speaker phone? This is one feature that i am REALLY looking forward to, so if you have had a chance to try it out, how well does it work? can you hear the other party well, and vice versa?

(5) Finally and MOST importantly: How have you found the reception? does it seem to get better signal than ur 720 did? Also any other comparisons you can make about the reception would be great (as I fear that the reception is going to be fairly poor, and alas I will not be able to get/keep this phoen).

Thanks in advance for any answers you can give!

Well the sun has desided to hide today so i an;t answer that question yet. i know my T720 was rough but this one has a different lighting scheme so i'm hopeful. in the dark its plunty bright. the color i find pretty sharp but this one does have 64k compared to the 4.5k the 720 had so i would see a dirrefence. it still uses a stn and not a tft so it won;t hole up to the vx6000 i'm sure for screen quality but i'd say its on par with the vx 4400 and a530 this is using the brightest most colorful picture the phoen came a candle with what would look like a wreath and bows behind it. the bicklightign is cool in the respect it has a second blue backlight when the main backlight goes off a light blue light is on making hte screen far more readible without the mainbacklight than the 720

(2) Have you found the battery life to be fairly good? i know you dont have any scientific numbers for this but about how long does the battery last without needing it to be charged. (I realie you just got the phone so you might not be able to answer this one now, but when you get a better idea of the battery life, maybe post it then)

so far i am impressed since i just left the battery as it was when i bought it and i made easily 45 mins of calls and half hour between get it now and vm and other crap tryignt o kill the battery. i jsut fully charged it and plan to see how it last the next day or so so i can possibly update then

(3) I have heard some people say that the phone feels sort of flimsy. have you found this to be true? Does it feel like a toy that is going to break?

Well heres another 720 comparision. I personally feel the 8600 feels abit more sturdy than the 720 but time will see how it holds up. The flip doesn;t have the same feel as the 720 feels study but doesn;t ahve as much feedback as the 720 did

(4) Have you had a chance to test out the speaker phone? This is one feature that i am REALLY looking forward to, so if you have had a chance to try it out, how well does it work? can you hear the other party well, and vice versa?

This i did play with quite abit. I made a call to my brother who likes to use his handsfree device alot. for the most part it worked quite well in fact at one time i had myself and 2 other family members chattign with him. At times you coudl tell when his microphone moved away from his face but for the most part it work really well. for awhile he used his headset alone and that came through quite well. I guess in reality it could be louder but its usable to me. In a nosie environment the speakerphone probably wouldnt; be too good a choice.

(5) Finally and MOST importantly: How have you found the reception? does it seem to get better signal than ur 720 did? Also any other comparisons you can make about the reception would be great (as I fear that the reception is going to be fairly poor, and alas I will not be able to get/keep this phoen).

The signal in my house seemed to be alittle better but i can;t really say. Upstarts my 720 got close to full coverage but downstairs alittle worse. The 8600 was full all over. At school i've got full covverage on both. I do know a few weak spots for my 720 but i have not been back to them yet with the new phone. my t720 did jump in and out every now and again but not as bad as some people's seemed too. I haven't noticed such things with the 8600 yet. I once upon a time had an audiovox cdm135 adn loved it no problems at all with it so i'm keeping my fingures crossed for similar results. Unfortunatly i don't know if both phones are by the same manufacturer since audiovox rebadges but i saw somethign once that they were.

hope that helped sorry it was long winded if you need clarification of something or thought of somethign else ask away so far i'm happy with my desion on this phone but time will always tell

thanks for the reply! the phone sounds pretty good. I can't wait to get a chance to take a look at it. Hopefully Verizon will give me a 15 day trial on this. When i returned my VX6000 the guy said i could, but when i talked to another Verizon employee they said I wouldnt be able to get another 15 day trial. Oh well, I guess I will just have to wait and see what they say when i go to buy the phone. If you find anything else thats noteworthy (good or bad) please post to let us know! THANKS! you can get another trial. you only get one trial per upgrade/purchase if you recieve it at a promotional price. as many as you want at full retail. regardless though, at promo price, your not returning somethign for it so you will get a trial period

I definately will do, I should get it either Thursday or Saturday. But as soon as I do I will definately post my thoughts on the phone (though i actually havent even checked that stores have it around me, so i am making a huge assumption that they do. I will probably call tomorrow and make sure they have it)

Default 8600 on verizon site!!

wow.. i didn't know there was this much attention paid to this phone... well... last week, i bought the Samsung A530.. then over the weekend, decided to pop into the verizon store in the mall and saw the Audiovox 8600... the one thing that caught my attention was the speakerphone.. so today, i returned the samsung for the audiovox..
here's my accessment....i upgraded from a LG 510..

samsung a530 vs Audiovox 8600... the samsung is overall built at a higher quality.. the display is beauitful.. the display on the 8600 is so-so.. if anything, the external display is anything to be desired.. the backlite on the exteral is about the same brightness as my LG510... the text is actually smaller than my LG510.. of course, the internal display is nice if you set the contrast all the way to dark.. Pros on the 8600: speakerphone, i like this ALOT! it's not very loud..or good enough while driving... but, if you leave it on your desk and talk into it, it works fine... so speaker could definitely be louder.. another PRO that made me get this phone was Tri-mode... i travel alot..and sometimes, the signal at my apt isn't very good so being able to get on analog is a good feature for me..

bottom line is... this phone was 50bucks cheaper than the A530, and offered speakerphone feature.. even though the samsung included an extra battery, and just felt like a higher quality phone.... if you don't need speakerphone or analog service.. get the samsung, but if you're like me.. and want extra features, get the 8600..

Thanks for the review Kyle. I am not sure there is all that much attention going towards this phone, a majority of it is me obsessing over it, which makes up for the lack of others' interest in it I just wanted to know how you have found the reception on this phone compared to the A530 and ur LG. Also have you found it switching into analog in places where your A530 would hold a digital signal?

I also wanted to mention that this phone IS now on the verizon website for my area code!

you know, you're from ny... so am i , nyc.. but i'm up in hartford area and traveling down to NYC over the weekend, that's when i'll def be trying out the reception on the 8600 driving on 95 ... i would have to say, in general, verizon has great service in the northeast... given that, my LG phone was great in keeping my signal.. i think i had about 5 drop calls over 2 years and i drive around talking on my phone alot.... the reason i traded in the A530 was because there was no analog.. therefore there's that slight chance i might miss some calls... since i don't have a home phone, i rely heavily on my cell..... so far, so good... been getting every call i'm suppose to get.... i think all phones in this price range will have good reception as long as they're tri-mode..meaning, you'll have more chances of connecting... than a phone that's all digital.... that's my biggest concern.. so i got this phone over the A530... in terms of quality, the samsung is def a better phone........... hope this helps..

i must say... after a week of using my 8600... the battery life isn't all that great.... i haven't really talked on it THAT much.. and i'm charging it every other day..... from the manual... its basically.. if i dont use the phone AT all... it'll last me 3 to 4 days... it's def not any better than my LG510 in terms of battery life... one thing i've noticed is... with my LG phone, if there's no more battery bars... i could still talk on it for 15 mins or so.. not so with this phone.. it's probably another 3 minutes if i keep using it ....

welcome to the word of color phones. none of them have that good of battery life. The a530 might get decent reviews but it comes with both a normal and exended battery. i find that thins phone is better on battery than my t720. I thnk the standby time is better similar to what you said 3 to 4 days with almsot no use i don;t believe the 720 would go that long

Im choosing between this phone and the Lg vx600 and was wondering, does this phone have changable faceplates like phonescoop says? If it does that will be the deciding factor for me because I usually drop my phone and hate seeing the scrathes on it.

The battery life on the a530 is outstanding. Not having the analog mode helps because in pinging the towers, analog drains the battery. I've owned Audiovoxes in the past and depending on who made them battery life was either great or sorry.

I recently purchased the 8600 and got the 3589I free for $100. (1 year contract). So far I am impressed by the battery life on the 8600, also gets great reception...better than my V120E. The only thing wrong with the 8600, at least for me, is the phone book. It is absolutely horrible when you are driving and have to search a name. If you go to the phone book and type in the search letter "N" for Nystadt,
