Default Getting around the VirginXtras with 8500

Word has been circulating around a few forums on a method for circumventing the Xtras for the Vox. This method is as follows:
[*] Press VX key to begin accessing Xtras, immediatly press and hold the VX key again.[*] On this menu, move the the sixth option, which is "Advanced."[*] Select "Homepage."[*] Edit homepgae, bookmarks as necessary.

However, if you do not enter the Homepage menu quickly enough, or something like that, it will not allow you to edit the homepage, but only display a message reading "Feature not available." I have successfully accessed the Yahoo page once from the phone, and every time after have only gotten the Feature not available message. Has anyone else been experimenting with this that may have some advice? This could be a very useful tool if there is an easy or sure-fire way to enter this menu.

I'll go ahead and anser my own question for me.

After playing around awhile, it seems this is just one of those things you have to play with awhile. The more you get the hang of it, the easier it will be. Good riddance Xtras, hello web.

Do you, uh, Yahoo?

Hi, I just bought a Audiovox "VOX" 8500 from Virgin Mobile and had 2 questions:Does VM Charge you minutes (or whatever you call the units) for surfing the web? What are some websites that can be accessed via the phone?

Thanks a ton!

Hello Sigma, and other "Vox" users

I would just like to recommend that when you use my method to use this home page. http://tagtag.com/beetnick55. This web site gives you access to AIM,MSN,YAHOO and GOOGLE!

Thanks for listening

VM does not charge for surfing the Xtras or the web (since it's not supposed to be available).

If you are using the Xtras, you can only access the Xtras. If you use the web, you can access any WAP site out there.

Is there any easier way than doing this every time I want to access the web? I keep doing it as fast as I can and have only gotten to the web Once, all other times say "Feature Not Avaliable."

Well, just remove the openwave.com site and replace it with anything else you want.

Try HTTP://wap.google.com

or

for a few good places to start.

After setting the homepage to whatever page I like ( I chose winksite.com/jwake/1 for its many links) I then found out that if you download another ringtone or do something that uses Xtras it will reset but if you don't your browser will stay on your site... Hope This Helps

I took my phone and changed WAP protocals and while it was enabling security, I held down the VX button and easily accessed the homepage setting. I put in http://www.yahoo.com and it worked and now everytime I start VX, Yahoo comes up, I can also use yahoo to access any other site that I want

I have searched and not found any definitive answer to my question. My question is with WAP and connecting to yahoo or hotmail can I download attachments like .doc or .xls files to the phone or using a cable to the laptop?

As far as I know you can't download files to the phone. You'd have to use the phone as a modem and then just download like you would via regular internet...

Simply : how do I enter the character 'b'?

More completely : I seem to be able to get in to the homepage setting, but I don't know how to enter the text of my desired web page. I don't have any problem entering the first character value of each button (1,a,d,g,j,...) but how do I enter the other characters (.,b,e,h,k,...)

Thanks.

I did find this after some trial and error. It took some trial and error because the same technique did not work to get '.' from the '1' button, which I expected to get by hitting it twice quickly. I learned that to get '.' I have to switch to SYM mode using '..'. I learned that quickly hitting the keys multiple times does work for all the alpha charaters.

Thanks again.
