Someone at phonescoop said that the Audiovox 8600 should be out by June 16th. This phone's specs look great, so I am hoping that what this person said is true. I have heard bad things about Hyundai phones, i was wondering what has been wrong with them in the past? and if this phone would be worth buying? |

The phone was originally scheduled for June release...there is a report elsewhere (CNET) that it will be delayed until at least the 3rd quarter 2003.

Yeah, I saw that Cnet says it will be a phone released in Q3, but today i posted something on a forum in phonescoop and someone replied saying June 16th. (The phonescoop forum) So I guess we will just have to wait and see. But I still am interested in what is wrong with Hyundai phones, so any info on that would be appreciated.

I don't think it is so much that there is anything seriously wrong with them, rather they are not nearly as good as the Toshiba phones. Because they are both released under the Audiovox name, the bad rep of the Hyundai's tends to bring down the rep of Audiovox. I think you will usually find that the Hyundai's tend to get worse reception than some other phones and are generally not thought ot be as reliable in the long-term. Still, the 8300, while not great, doesn't seem to be that bad. Just let other people buy the phone and wait a month or so...see what they have to about it before you buy it.

I have both the 9500 and 8300. The 9500 does have greater ability to pull in weak signals to make/receive a call but the 8300 certainly functions fine. If you are in a good signal area, I don't think there is any significant difference in functionally between the two models. Suliman |

I for one would be interested in getting one of these. I have a 9500 and am fairly happy with it, but I don't see that it's ability to pull in reception in weaker areas is any greater than most other phones. My wife has a 4400 and my 9500 is no better and sometimes worse. Plus I get more dropped calls than she does. The best thing to do is to get one if you are interested when they come out and give it a workout during the 15 day trial period.
