Default Replacement Phone

The slider on my daughter's Pantech Matrix phone failed after 6 months. There is a recall for this failure, but AT&T has refused to replace the phone because the moisture indicator has turned also pink (Pantech tells me that it is very sensitive). There is no sign of moisture damage, just the broken slider, so this is a coincidence, and I’m not very happy with AT&T.

Anyway, I need to get a replacement phone that will accept the existing SIM card without and drama. I don’t want to get it from AT&T, and recommendations on how to do this?

A fellow forumite Blue4Life has posted a link to his online document that lists a number of sources for the phones.

Easiest replacement phone is the at&t go phones that you get anywhere from about 15 bucks and up. you can even get one at Wally world for about $20 pop in your sim and your gold. I have done this and works like a champ.

I used to do that as well, however I recently stumbled upon this post on AT&T forums that indicate AT&T may be actually clamping down on the practice.
